Update, August 26: We received responses to some of our questions from the Hawaii Department of Health. They couldn't tell us anything about their security paper, but they did answer another frequently-raised question: why is Obama's father's race listed as "African"? Kurt Tsue at the DOH told us that father's race and mother's race are supplied by the parents, and that "we accept what the parents self identify themselves to be." We consider it reasonable to believe that Barack Obama, Sr., would have thought of and reported himself as "African." It's certainly not the slam dunk some readers have made it out to be.

When we asked about the security borders, which look different from some other examples of Hawaii certifications of live birth, Kurt said "The borders are generated each time a certified copy is printed. A citation located on the bottom left hand corner of the certificate indicates which date the form was revised." He also confirmed that the information in the short form birth certificate is sufficient to prove citizenship for "all reasonable purposes."

WASHINGTON — As John McCain and Barack Obama vie to become president, certain fevered voices persist in saying they should not even be allowed to try.

In an argument popular on the Internet and taken seriously practically nowhere else, critics of the candidates argue that each does not qualify to run for the White House because he's not a "natural-born citizen" as the Constitution requires.

Obama plainly is, because he was born in the U.S.

McCain qualifies, too, although the circumstances of his birth _ on a U.S. naval base in the Panama Canal Zone in 1936 _ were unusual enough to merit a review.

In California, U.S. District Judge William Alsup threw out a lawsuit seeking to remove McCain from the state's ballot because of his birthplace.

Alsup ruled in September that McCain was essentially a qualifying citizen two times over _ first, because both his parents were U.S. citizens, which satisfied eligibility rules of the time; and because a law passed a year after his birth retroactively recognizing people born in the zone as natural-born Americans.

McCain's father was stationed in the Panama Canal Zone with the U.S. Navy.

The Constitution requires that only "natural-born" citizens hold the presidency. But the Founding Fathers did not elaborate on the term, so bloggers and others have had a field day.

Theories abound that Obama actually was born abroad and that his birth certificate, proving he was born in Hawaii, is a fake.

Obama was born in Honolulu in 1961, two years after Hawaii became a state. He is the son of a Kenyan father and a mother from Kansas, who met and married in Hawaii. After the marriage failed, a 6-year-old Obama left Hawaii to spend four years in Indonesia with his mother and Indonesian stepfather. In 1971, when he was 10, Obama's mother sent him back to Honolulu to stay with his maternal grandparents.

In response to the allegations, Obama's campaign in June posted the Illinois senator's birth certificate on his campaign Web site, Fight the Smears: The Truth About Barack’s Birth Certificate.

The nonpartisan Web site Factcheck.org examined the original document and said it does have a raised seal and the usual evidence of a genuine document.

Even so, a lawsuit challenging Obama's candidacy was filed in August in a U.S. District Court in Pennsylvania and is still pending.

#3 Obama's association with the unrepentant terrorist William Ayers, founder of the Weather Underground.

-Despite having authored two autobiographies, Obama has never written about his most important executive experience. From 1995 to 1999, he led an education foundation called the Chicago Annenberg Challenge (CAC), and remained on the board until 2001. The group poured more than $100 million into the hands of community organizers and radical education activists.

-The CAC was the brainchild of Bill Ayers, a founder of the Weather Underground in the 1960s. Among other feats, Mr. Ayers and his cohorts bombed the Pentagon, and he has never expressed regret for his actions. Barack Obama's first run for the Illinois State Senate was launched at a 1995 gathering at Mr. Ayers's home.

-Documents in the CAC archives make clear that Mr. Ayers and Obama were partners in the CAC. Those archives are housed in the Richard J. Daley Library at the University of Illinois at Chicago

- In early 1995, Obama was appointed the first chairman of the board, which handled fiscal matters. Mr. Ayers co-chaired the foundation's other key body, the "Collaborative," which shaped education policy.

#4 Obama's relationship with Tony "slum landlord" Rezko

-They met in 1990. Obama was a student at Harvard Law School and got an unsolicited job offer from Rezko, then a low-income housing developer in Chicago. Obama turned it down.

-Obama took a job in 1993 with a small Chicago law firm, Davis Miner Barnhill, that represents developers -- primarily not-for-profit groups -- building low-income housing with government funds.

-One of the firm's not-for-profit clients -- the Woodlawn Preservation and Investment Corp., co-founded by Obama's then-boss Allison Davis -- was partners with Rezko's company in a 1995 deal to convert an abandoned nursing home at 61st and Drexel into low-income apartments. Altogether, Obama spent 32 hours on the project, according to the firm. Only five hours of that came after Rezko and WPIC became partners, the firm says. The rest of the future senator's time was helping WPIC strike the deal with Rezko. Rezko's company, Rezmar Corp., also partnered with the firm's clients in four later deals -- none of which involved Obama, according to the firm. In each deal, Rezmar "made the decisions for the joint venture," says William Miceli, an attorney with the firm.

-In 1995, Obama began campaigning for a seat in the Illinois Senate. Among his earliest supporters: Rezko. Two Rezko companies donated a total of $2,000. Obama was elected in 1996 -- representing a district that included 11 of Rezko's 30 low-income housing projects.

-Rezko's low-income housing empire began crumbling in 2001, when his company stopped making mortgage payments on the old nursing home that had been converted into apartments. The state foreclosed on the building -- which was in Obama's Illinois Senate district.

-In 2003, Obama announced he was running for the U.S. Senate, and Rezko -- a member of his campaign finance committee -- held a lavish fund-raiser June 27, 2003, at his Wilmette mansion.

-A few months after Obama became a U.S. senator, he and Rezko's wife, Rita, bought adjacent pieces of property from a doctor in Chicago's Kenwood neighborhood -- a deal that has dogged Obama the last two years. The doctor sold the mansion to Obama for $1.65 million -- $300,000 below the asking price. Rezko's wife paid full price -- $625,000 -- for the adjacent vacant lot. The deals closed in June 2005. Six months later, Obama paid Rezko's wife $104,500 for a strip of her land, so he could have a bigger yard. At the time, it had been widely reported that Tony Rezko was under federal investigation. Questioned later about the timing of the Rezko deal, Obama called it "boneheaded" because people might think the Rezkos had done him a favor.

-Eight months later -- in October 2006 -- Rezko was indicted on charges he solicited kickbacks from companies seeking state pension business under his friend Gov. Blagojevich. Federal prosecutors maintain that $10,000 from the alleged kickback scheme was donated to Obama's run for the U.S. Senate. Obama has given the money to charity.

-Using his elected office and his clout, Obama helped Tony Rezko and other unscrupulous low-income housing developers obtain millions of dollars in state grants, tax credits, low-interest loans, and regulatory advantages.

Recently FactCheck representatives got a chance to spend some time with the birth certificate, and we can attest to the fact that it is real and three-dimensional and resides at the Obama headquarters in Chicago. We can assure readers that the certificate does bear a raised seal, and that it's stamped on the back by Hawaii state registrar Alvin T. Onaka (who uses a signature stamp rather than signing individual birth certificates). We even brought home a few photographs.


The certificate has all the elements the State Department requires for proving citizenship to obtain a U.S. passport: "your full name, the full name of your parent(s), date and place of birth, sex, date the birth record was filed, and the seal or other certification of the official custodian of such records." The names, date and place of birth, and filing date are all evident on the scanned version, and you can see the seal above.

The document is a "certification of birth," also known as a short-form birth certificate. The long form is drawn up by the hospital and includes additional information such as birth weight and parents' hometowns. The short form is printed by the state and draws from a database with fewer details. The Hawaii Department of Health's birth record request form does not give the option to request a photocopy of your long-form birth certificate, but their short form has enough information to be acceptable to the State Department. We tried to ask the Hawaii DOH why they only offer the short form, among other questions, but they have not given a response.

The scan released by the campaign shows halos around the black text, making it look (to some) as though the text might have been pasted on top of an image of security paper. But the document itself has no such halos, nor do the close-up photos we took of it. We conclude that the halo seen in the image produced by the campaign is a digital artifact from the scanning process.

We asked the Obama campaign about the date stamp and the blacked-out certificate number. The certificate is stamped June 2007, because that's when Hawaii officials produced it for the campaign, which requested that document and "all the records we could get our hands on" according to spokesperson Shauna Daly. The campaign didn't release its copy until 2008, after speculation began to appear on the Internet questioning Obama's citizenship. The campaign then rushed to release the document, and the rush is responsible for the blacked-out certificate number. Says Shauna: "[We] couldn't get someone on the phone in Hawaii to tell us whether the number represented some secret information, and we erred on the side of blacking it out. Since then we've found out it's pretty irrelevant for the outside world." The document we looked at did have a certificate number; it is 151 1961 - 010641.

Plaintiff, Philip J. Berg, Esquire [hereinafter “Plaintiff”] files the within Response in Opposition to Defendants, Barack H. Obama [hereinafter “Obama”] and the Democratic National Committee [hereinafter “DNC’] Motion for Protective Order Staying Discovery Pending Decision on Defendants Dispositive Motion on the following grounds:
1. Defendants’ pending Motion to Dismiss does not entitle them to a Protective Order under Federal Rule of Civil Procedure 26(c) [hereinafter F.R.C.P. 26(c];
2. Defendants have failed to show “good cause” and are therefore not entitled to a protective order under F.R.C.P. 26(c);
3. Defendants have not pointed to any legitimate privacy concerns. Defendants have failed to point out any substantiated specific examples demonstrating that disclosure will cause a defined and serious injury;

The Democratic National Committee is a public entity and is also subject to public scrutiny; and 9. The public interest in access to the requested information under the Freedom of Information Act 5 U.S.C. § 552 is a strong factor in favor of not granting a protective order which would prevent disclosure of such information.

Anatomy of a Scandal

There is only one word for it.

That word is "scandal."

That scandal is rapidly metastasizing, too. Overtaking you, your family, your business, your kid's education and, last but certainly not least, the entire global economy.

Begin with the scarlet philosophical thread that takes expression from the following people in their own distinctive styles.

William Ayers: "I am a radical, Leftist, small 'c' communist ... Maybe I'm the last communist who is willing to admit it….The ethics of Communism still appeal to me."

Jeremiah Wright: "God damn America, for treating our citizens as less than human."

Jimmy Carter: In a June 16, 1976 presentation to the Democrats' platform committee, Carter promised that America under a Carter administration would help the poor by putting "Greater effort to direct mortgage money into the financing of private housing ."

Bill Clinton and Al Gore: Writing in their 1992 campaign book Putting People First, the two promised if elected they would: "Ease the credit crunch in our inner cities…to prevent redlining (and) require financial institutions to invest in homes in their communities."

Franklin Raines: Like Carter, on this subject Clinton and Gore were as good as their word, installing Clinton Budget Director Franklin Raines to run Fannie Mae and get the job done. Raines did just what he was asked to do. As the New York Times reported on September 30, 1999:

''Fannie Mae has expanded home ownership for millions of families in the 1990's by reducing down payment requirements,'' said Franklin D. Raines, Fannie Mae's chairman and chief executive officer. ''Yet there remain too many borrowers whose credit is just a notch below what our underwriting has required who have been relegated to paying significantly higher mortgage rates in the so-called subprime market."
Barack Obama: "I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career."

And last but not least…

ACORN: As Stanley Kurtz over at NRO and Sol Stern of City Journal have both uncovered, a driving force of ACORN -- quite aside from accusations that it has engaged in massive fraud in registering voters -- has been to exert political pressure on banks to give loans to those otherwise unqualified. In the name, of course, of fairness. Reported Stern on ACORN back in 2003:

ACORN's anti-capitalism leads it to deep distrust of capitalism's central instruments -- the banks and other financial institutions that ACORN would class high among those "irresponsible… largest businesses." ACORN loudly campaigns against "predatory lending," "redlining," and other forms of presumed abuse by financial institutions that supposedly hinder the minority poor from getting the capital needed for home buying and business start-ups. As an antidote, ACORN has latched on to a 1977 federal law, the Community Reinvestment Act (CRA), which was aimed at ensuring that banks do not discriminate against poor minority communities. Under its rules, banks must go through a costly process of reporting where and to whom they lend money, to show that they don't discriminate. There are no official penalties for banks that get less than satisfactory ratings from the regulators on this issue. But when banks need approval for mergers or acquisitions, the CRA gives "community groups" the opportunity to lodge complaints against them, alleging suspect lending practices. If there's even the appearance of discrimination, the regulators may put the bank's deal on hold.
How did the banks respond to this political pressure from ACORN to lend money to financially unqualified applicants? Says Stern:

ACORN has developed a lucrative niche as an "advisor" to banks seeking regulatory approvals. Thus we have J. P. Morgan & Company, the legatee of the man who once symbolized for many all that was supposedly evil about American capitalism, suddenly donating hundreds of thousands of dollars to ACORN. This act of generosity and civic-mindedness came, interestingly, just as Morgan was asking bank regulators for approval of a merger with Chase Manhattan. Not to be outdone, Chase also decided to grant more than $200,000 to ACORN.
Stern concludes by quoting one "prominent consultant to the financial industry, who preferred to remain anonymous" as saying this: "The banks know they are being held up, but they are not going to fight over this. They look at it as a cost of doing business."

The cost of doing business. Wow. Remember that the next time you look at what's left of your portfolio.

Paying what amounts to blackmail money to appease the political pressures from ACORN -- while letting ACORN have their way with banks and financial institutions -- has now, incredibly, helped bring millions of Americans -- perhaps you, dear reader -- to the brink of bankruptcy. Stocks, mutual funds, 401k's, pensions, credit -- the financial guts of a family, a business, and in turn the underlying financial foundation of the U.S. government itself -- are now in serious, serious trouble. Entire Wall Street institutions are utterly collapsed. Somewhere Bill Ayers and Jeremiah Wright are surely laughing hysterically.

This is in real part because of ACORN, the self-same organization that is now being investigated for massive voter fraud in key electoral states from Pennsylvania to Nevada. The same organization which Barack Obama himself once counseled in his role as a "community organizer." (You wanted to know what a community organizer does? Look at the condition of your 401k and you will now get it immediately.) And, not to be forgotten, ACORN shares some shade of the philosophical thread that runs in varying hues from the blood red fuses of Bill Ayers bombs to the purple prose of Jeremiah Wright's sermons to the housing policies advocated and implemented by Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton and Al Gore and defended by Barney Frank and Chris Dodd and an army of Democrats captured on videotape.


DO YOU GET the picture here? Do you see the thread? William Ayers thought America was so unfair he became a self-described "radical Leftist" who expressed his views on American capitalism by bombing the U.S. Capitol and the Pentagon. Jeremiah Wright his pulpit to preach that America was so unfair because it treated our own citizens as "less than human." Jimmy Carter was so disturbed at the lack of fairness in the free market he vowed that if he were elected president in 1976 he would put "greater effort" into making sure the government could "direct mortgage money" to housing for the poor. He was as good as his word, getting the Community Reinvestment Act passed in 1977. The purpose of the Carter legislation was to reduce "discriminatory" credit practices affecting the poor. Like clockwork, this in turn opened the door for ACORN. Fannie Mae boss Franklin Raines, the Clinton appointee who walked away from the agency with $90 million, was so intent on making things fair for those "millions of families" unable to buy homes (as Clinton and Gore had promised in 1992) that he reduced "down payment requirements," a key tenet of ACORN.

Here's Stanley Kurtz -- way back in May -- on the findings of his investigation into Barack Obama and ACORN: "Obama's ties to Acorn -- arguably the most politically radical large-scale activist group in the country -- are wide, deep, and longstanding."

In other words, working with ACORN was part of Obama's self-appointed role as a "community organizer." Long before having any association with ACORN had the serious potential, as it now suddenly very much does, of being a political liability, Obama sought and received the endorsement of its political arm for his presidential campaign. These were his old buddies, so, of course, he got it. Why not? After all, in his own words at the time:

"I come out of a grassroots organizing background. That's what I did for three and half years before I went to law school. That's the reason I moved to Chicago was to organize. So this is something that I know personally, the work you do, the importance of it. I've been fighting alongside ACORN on issues you care about my entire career. Even before I was an elected official, when I ran Project Vote voter registration drive in Illinois, ACORN was smack dab in the middle of it, and we appreciate your work."
Are we clear here? Barack Obama not only was the counsel for ACORN as part of his "community organizer" role he considered "the work you do" important. Said he: "We appreciate your work." He was proud to be "fighting alongside ACORN on issues" it cared about. And what do we now know the results of ACORN's work and its issues to be? Starkly and very simply put they have:

1. Undermined the financial stability of you, your family, your business and your government with a financial collapse unrivaled since the Great Depression.

2. Flooded battleground states in this election with a massive attempt at fraudulent voter registration that is on the verge of stealing the presidency of the United States for Obama.

One question.

WHERE IS JOHN McCAIN?????????

This is a blossoming scandal that will make Watergate look like a piker. And someone has the …pardon me, but the word that comes to mind is "stupidity"….to say that Ayers and Wright and the ideology of what and why they did what they did have no connection to where we are right this minute? Are they kidding? That bright, scarlet philosophical thread that runs straight from the bombs of Bill Ayers to the sermons of Jeremiah Wright to the political shenanigans of Jimmy Carter, Bill Clinton, Al Gore, Barney Frank and Chris Dodd has gradually revealed itself to be a very long fuse to a spectacular explosion of financial and political scandal. An explosion linking everything from the political blackmail of institutions like J.P. Morgan to the financial manipulations of Franklin Raines and Fannie Mae and stunningly connects to ACORN and Obama himself. Last and certainly not least, this same fuse led directly to the destruction of your personal wealth -- your money -- and is even now poised to steal your votes and destroy the possibility of an honest election.

Two points:

* If the McCain campaign cannot connect all these dots for voters -- in the last debate, on the stump, in its commercials and with its surrogates -- this will go down in history as a spectacular example of political malpractice.

* Second, and without question of more importance. If in fact this election produces a majority for Obama from voters who do not yet see the connection between ACORN, Obama, Barney Frank, Chris Dodd, Fannie Mae and the resulting status of their own personal financial well-being and that of, quite literally, the entire global economy, there are two words for the day after an Obama election. With a tip of the hat to Ben Stein they are these:

Special Prosecutor.

Palin opened a door to McCain's relationship with a former Viet Cong terrorist

John McCain's vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin accused Democrat Barack Obama of "palling around with terrorists" because of his political relationship with a former 1960s radical.

Palin, who in two years stepped from a small-town mayor to become governor of Alaska, and then the first female running mate on a Republican presidential ticket, is being used by McCain to characterize Obama as undesirable to American voters.

Palin's reference was to Bill Ayers, an American communist who co-founded the violent Weatherman organization in 1969. Weatherman members took credit for bombings in the United States, including at the Pentagon and the U.S. Capitol, during the Vietnam War.

Ayers and his wife Bernadine Dohrn, also an extremist in the 1970s, remain unrepentant about their bombings of U.S. government facilities and police stations. Ayers told the New York Times in an interview released Sept. 11, 2001, "I don't regret setting bombs. I feel we didn't do enough,"

Obama served on a charity board with Ayers several years ago and the two have appeared speaking together at public events. In 1995, the first organizing meeting for Obama's state senatorial campaign was reportedly held in Ayers's apartment. The Obama campaign has admitted that Obama and Ayers are "friends."

Palin told a group of donors at a private airport in Englewood, Colo, "Our opponent ... is someone who sees America, it seems, as being so imperfect, imperfect enough, that he's palling around with terrorists who would target their own country." She also said, "This is not a man who sees America as you see America and as I see America."

By bringing up Obama's relationship with the unrepentant communist Ayers, Palin opened the door to vetting McCain on his post-Vietnam War relationship with the late Vo Van Kiet.

Kiet was a Viet Cong terrorist in South Vietnam who rose through the communist ranks to become Vietnam's Prime Minister and McCain's political friend. Kiet served as prime minister from 1991 until 1997.

McCain blocked a May 1992 attempt by former Vietnam POWs Larry Stark, Dan Pitzer, and Jose Anzaldua to have the Bush administration investigate Kiet for ordering the executions of American POWs.

McCain traveled to Vietnam in October 1992 to collaborate with Kiet and other communist leaders on how best to remove the POW/MIA issue as an obstacle to normalized trade and diplomatic relations between Vietnam and the United States.

While in Vietnam, McCain and Kiet warmly greeted each other reaffirming both their governments' desires for early normalization of relations and accelerated cooperation to resolve the issue of Americans missing in action. McCain has since referred to Kiet as his "friend."

McCain's chummy meeting with Kiet gave President Bill Clinton much needed political cover to lift the Vietnam trade embargo and withdraw U.S. opposition to Vietnam's access to multi-million dollar loans from the International Monetary Fund. Clinton did so before Veterans Day 1993, a move that jump started Hanoi's troubled economy. The about-face also removed any incentive for that country's leaders to explain the fate of U.S. prisoners of war who were in Vietnam's possession, but not released at the end of the war.

Kiet died in June 2008 at the age 85.

Unlike McCain who came from a family with political influence, Kiet was born to a peasant in a village in the Mekong Delta. His birth name was Phan Van Hoa. He changed it to Vo Van Kiet when he joined the Indochinese Communist Party in 1939. He also went by the nickname, Sau Dan.

As a member of the communist-led Viet Minh independence movement, Kiet became a staunch communist leader fighting against the French in the first Indochina war (1946-54) in southern Vietnam. Following the division of the country according to the Geneva accords of 1954, Kiet helped organize the South Vietnamese Viet Cong National Liberation Front (NLF). In total, Kiet led communist fighters in bloody wars against the French and Americans for nearly four decades.

By late 1960, Kiet had achieved an influential and high-ranking position as a member of the secret Viet Cong NLF Central Committee. He was also Secretary in Command of the Saigon Special Zone, one of the six zones by which the NLF divided Vietnam below the 17th parallel.

In May of 1963, Kiet's power and influence was strengthened when the NLF organizational structure reorganized South Vietnam into three interzones (literally groups of provinces). Kiet's Saigon-Cholon-Gia Dinh area remained as a Special Zone.

As leader of the Special Zone, Kiet wielded much influence within the NLF Central Committee. His powerful position on the NLF Central Committee was enhanced even more by his membership in the Lao Dong communist party, which reported directly to Hanoi. This allowed him to set Viet Cong war-making policies, which included the treatment of American prisoners of war held in South Vietnam.

Under Kiet's guidance, the NLF Central Committee developed an official policy authorizing the use of terror tactics and reprisal executions against the South Vietnamese population and American POWs the Viet Cong were holding.

Palin was only a few months old and McCain was well launched into a career as Navy aviator when, in the spring of 1964, Kiet approved an ambitious Viet Cong plan to assassinate U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert S. McNamara and Henry Cabot Lodge, the U.S. ambassador to South Vietnam.

The plan called for Viet Cong terrorist Nguyen Van Troi to plant a bomb under the Cong Ly Bridge near Saigon. The intent was to blow up the bridge as U.S. officials drove across. He was discovered and arrested by the South Vietnamese.

It was revealed during Troi's trial that he was a member of a Viet Cong terrorist cell, which operated in the Saigon area beginning as early as 1961.

According to U.S. government reports, during the time Troi was active in the terrorist cell; a bomb was exploded May 20, 1962 in front of the Hung Dao Hotel, Saigon, injuring eight Vietnamese and three Americans who were in the street at the time. A grenade was thrown into a holiday crowd in downtown Saigon, killing six people, including two children, and injuring 38 others. Viet Cong terrorists hurled a grenade into a Saigon home where an American family was having dinner, killing a French businessman and wounding four other people. Two powerful explosions set off by terrorists on bicycles killed two Vietnamese and wounded 10 others in Saigon. Terrorists set off three grenades in Saigon injuring 16 people, including four children; the first was thrown in a main street, the second along the waterfront, and the third in the Chinese residential area.

On Oct. 18, 1964, a South Vietnamese government firing squad executed Troi after convicting him of the unsuccessful attempt to assassinate McNamara and Lodge, as well as "other terrorist acts, which included tossing bombs into civilian-filled restaurants in Saigon."

In response, Kiet's NLF Central Committee ordered retaliatory executions of American prisoners of war. The NLF Central Committee announced on Jun. 24, 1965, that POW Harold Bennett, an Army E4 from Perryville, Ark, had been shot.

Green Beret Capt. Humberto Roque "Rocky" Versace of Norfolk, Va., and Sgt. 1st Class Kenneth M. Roraback were chosen by the NLF Central Committee for execution. The Viet Cong had labeled both men as "unrepentant reactionaries" because they refused to violate the U.S. Military Code of Conduct to become willing participants in communist propaganda used in the POW camps.

Versace was marched to Central Committee headquarters in September 1965 and publicly executed Sept. 26, 1965 after being forced to kneel and apologize for his "war crimes." He was shot in the back of the head. The murder was reportedly filmed by communist photographers and it is widely speculated that Kiet was present.

Although reports vary on the circumstances of Roraback's death, witnesses say a Viet Cong camp guard was ordered to execute Roraback. The guard's chosen method of murdering the American prisoner was to walk up behind Roraback and shoot him in the back of his head as he was eating his meal of rice and water.

The executions of Versace and Roraback were announced Sept. 26, 1965 over Liberation Radio, the voice of the Viet Cong NLF Central Committee. Both men, the radio broadcast declared, were shot in reprisal for the deaths of Viet Cong terrorists executed by the South Vietnamese.

The executions of the three U.S. prisoners of war were reported in the Oct. 1, 1965 edition of Newsweek, which quoted a State Department spokesman describing the executions an "act of wanton murder" in violation of the Geneva Convention.

Not only did McCain clearly use his tag as former POW and his political influence to protect Kiet from a war crimes investigation, but he has pushed for every piece of legislation Vietnam's communist government has asked our Congress to pass.

Despite McCain's friendship with Kiet, Hanoi still has not returned the remains of Bennett, Versace or Roraback.

Palin said donors on a greeting line had encouraged her and McCain to get tougher on Obama. She said an aide then advised her, "Sarah, the gloves are off, the heels are on, go get to them. "In going after Obama, accusing him of "palling around with terrorists," Palin may have inadvertently opened a door McCain can't afford to walk through.

Last spring, McCain asked of Obama, "How can you countenance someone who was engaged in bombings that could have or did kill innocent people?"

That's a good question Johnny boy. How did you "countenance" with someone like Vo Van Kiet who ordered your fellow POWs executed .... ?

You owe America some explanations.
