RBD's Battling the Books Week 15 NFL and Bowls
Weekly Recap and Rant – Screwed by the Bay(s)
(And Not the Good Kind of “Screwed.”)

NFL Update

I went 0-2 last week, but only gave back one unit.
First up was Tampa Bay in the Thursday night game. The Bucs we’re fighting for their playoff lives, facing an Atlanta team that’s fighting for nothing, other than not finishing with the worst record in the NFL.

TB scored a TD to go up by 14 points in the fourth quarter, at Hm.
On Atlanta’s next possession, the Bucs defense let them march down the field for a TD, cutting their lead to seven points.

The next time Atlanta had the ball, Tampa Bay did their Kevin Bacon in Animal House impersonation – they dropped trou, grabbed ankles, and said, “Thank you sir, may I have another!”
And the Falcons obliged, scoring another TD.

With almost no time left on the clock, Atlanta found themselves in the position of kicking a field goal to win the game.
With no chance of the Bucs covering the spread for me, I did what any good sports bettor does – I switched allegiances and rooted for the field goal to be good so Tampa Bay would lose (“*%$&^ me? No, *%$&^ U!”)

The kick split the uprights and the Bucs ended up losing SU, giving me a minor degree of satisfaction on a losing bet.

On Sunday, Green Bay did me the same way Tampa Bay did.
They had a lead in the closing seconds of the third quarter and ended up getting outscored 13-3 the rest of the way.

Jordan Love pulled an amateur move in one of the plays that I hate the most and just don’t understand in pro football – taking a sack on fourth down at the end of the game.
I understand if you get blindsided, but scrambling around like a fool and getting sacked instead of just flinging the ball downfield leaves you with no chance to win.

Worst case scenario, you throw on interception, but at least attempting a pass gives you the opportunity to get a reception or a pass interference penalty.
Like I said, amateur.

Two games, two teams that couldn’t finish, two losses.

I got one unit back when the Giants did with the Giants always do – they lost.
This guarantees me a win on my Regular Season Wins bet of Under 5′.

That, along with Mississippi Over 8′, puts me at 2-0 for Regular Season Wins bets.
Good ‘capping there.

Basketball Update

There are only so many hours in the day that I can allot to handicapping.
With my biggest money maker (college football) hanging on the edge of profitability, I’ve been putting every available minute I have into ‘capping the kids in the Bowls.

I’m still charting my handicapping models for b-ball so when I start betting it again I won’t be totally blind, but I just don’t have the time to put into analyzing the numbers I’m capping and making bets.
When the football seasons end I’ll be back full time on basketball.

College Football Update

Let’s end this recap on a good note.

My first Bowl play was Tuesday, on Jacksonville State.
The pick came from a new handicapping model I came up with Monday night.

It’s all Dogs.
Sixteen teams qualify.
Jax St was the first.
They won SU.

But it was about as fun as watching a college basketball game (the sport that I’m sure is going to give me a heart attack someday.)

Jacksonville State head coach Charles Kelly did his best to give the game away.
I mean, really, who tries a flea flicker from their own ten yard line??!!

The bonehead call ended up as a fumble in the end zone and a TD for Troy.

On their next possession, Kelly calls for a fake punt, I guess because their last trick play worked so well.
The pass was incomplete and Troy takes over, with momentum.

It took a fourth quarter TD and a last second Hail Mary swatted down in the end zone to come away with the win.

A good start to the Bowl season, 1-0.
The first of the Sixteen Dogs came in a winner.

Check out my last article to see the record on this play over the last four years, as well as the other fifteen teams that qualify.

And check out the < a href="https://www.predictem.com/forums/" title="Sports Picks Posting Forum>PredictEm Forum for the other games I already bought from this play, as well as updates in any other plays I make on the Bowls.

Good luck to all of you as you navigate your way through the rest of this Bowl season.
