San Antonio started strong, building a 31-26 lead after the first quarter and holding a five-point advantage early. However, the Thunder seized control in the second quarter, outscoring the Spurs 32-20 to take a 58-51 halftime lead. That second-quarter surge proved pivotal, as Oklahoma City never relinquished control despite playing without Jalen Williams, who sat out with left hamstring soreness.
The Spurs’ inability to cover was largely explained by a massive disparity in bench production. Oklahoma City’s reserves outscored San Antonio’s bench 76-23, with Alex Caruso contributing 15 points off the pine. That 53-point advantage in second-unit scoring overwhelmed any effort from San Antonio’s starters. Shai Gilgeous-Alexander led the Thunder with 26 points and 12 assists, while Jared McCain added 24 points and Jaylin Williams chipped in 18.
Victor Wembanyama matched Gilgeous-Alexander’s 26 points to pace the Spurs, but San Antonio struggled with efficiency throughout the contest. The home team shot just 42.5% from the field and 31.7% from three-point range, while Oklahoma City connected at a much sharper 48.1% overall and 44.7% from beyond the arc. The Thunder also held edges in rebounding (41-37) and assists (29-26), controlling the game’s tempo and pace.
The third quarter saw Oklahoma City extend its advantage further with a 37-33 frame, pushing the lead to double digits and effectively putting the game out of reach. San Antonio never mounted a serious comeback threat in the final period, falling by 15 points and costing Bash the cover by a wide margin.
