Golden State at Dallas
Riding with the Valkyries – WNBA Prediction
Tuesday, June 17th, 8 pm, EST
Current odds: Dallas -3′, 162′
Let’s hear it for the Valkyries.
The newest addition to the WNBA, the expansion team from the Golden State, is sitting in 4th place in the Western Conference.
Their win over Seattle in their last game puts them at 5-5, and they have a better point differential than six of the other 12 WNBA teams.
Not bad for the new kids on the block.
The best part about their fast start is this – in my article dated May 14th, I recommended a play on the Valkyries Regular Season Wins Total Over, and we got Dog odds.
The number was 8′ Ov +104.
WNBA teams play 44 games this season.
This means that with a little less than 25% of the season already played, they’ve already banked 55% of the number I need.
They have 34 games left to win the four that I need to win my wager.
Hojo-toho!
Let’s break down the basics on the Valkyries Tuesday night game in Dallas.
GS is 5-5 SU, 7-3 ATS
Dal is 1-11 SU, 4-8 ATS
On the Rd, GS is 3-2 ATS
GS is 3-2 as RD’s
At Hm, Dal is 0-5 ATS
Dallas is 0-1 as Hm Favs
Seems to me that the books might have the wrong team favored in this one.
If only I had stats on teams that I think are the wrong favorite.
If only . . .
Wait a minute – I DO have stats on WF’s!
And this game qualifies for one of them.
WF2 says GS should be the Fav.
WF2 is 7-4 this season.
And 3-1 on Rd teams.
The Valkyries have been in this spot (WF2 Rd) once this season.
On Monday, June 9th, WF2 had them qualifying as the Wrong Fav at LA.
The Sparks were -6 in that game.
The Valkyries won two of three quarters, lost one quarter, and tied LA in Q4 in a game that went into OT. They beat them again in the overtime period 11-3, for an 89-81 Rd win SU.
The +3′ GS is getting here is the smallest number they’ve been gifted all year, but what’s the alternative, lay -3′ with the Wings?
No, thank you.
Dallas’ sole win this season came against their competition for the worst team in the league, the
2-8 Connecticut Sun.
Dallas has lost four straight.
GS has won three straight.
I’ll ride with the Valkyries in this one.
When to Buy Recommendation
The board is pretty much split right now between Dallas -3/-3′. Not sure which way it moves but I can’t see it going any higher so I’ll grab the +3′.
My play:
GS +3′
Comments from an WNBA viewer:
Last week, I watched my first home game for the Valkyries.
They didn’t play Wagner’s Ride of the Valkyries.
No “Tojo-toho!”
So disappointing.
Sunday morning, I watched Chicago at Connecticut.
I saw a four-possession sequence in which Chicago missed a shot, then Connecticut missed a shot, then Chicago missed a shot, and then Connecticut missed a shot.
As Chicago took the ball up court to try again the announcer said, ” Good action here.”
I’m thinking, “What game is HE watching?”
I’m trying to figure it out, and then it hit me – they had just gone four straight possessions without a shot clock violation.
You go girls!
Note – there are two CC DD Favs on Tuesday’s card.
Be sure to check the PredictEm forum if you want an update on the records for this spot and a possible buy recommendation. I’ll have it posted before noon.
Recap: 1-0
Record: 7-7
