Weekly Review and Rant

It’s inevitable – over the course of a football season you’re going to have an 0’fer, a week where you go zero and something.
I had mine this past week, 0-4.
Hopefully it’ll be the only one.

NFL Review

I made a bad buy at Philly +4.
This was before their Monday night game where they got killed by the Cowboys.
The loss wouldn’t have made me not take them against Washington but I could have gotten a better line at +6.
In the end, it didn’t matter.
The Eagles jumped out to a first quarter lead of 10-0.
And never scored again (just like James Madison; more on that below.)
Washington won by 17.
NFL record now 6-4.

The only good news for the week was New England beating Miami, as expected.

After getting their first win of the season against the lowly Jets, I didn’t need Miami to get a little momentum going by getting a second win in a row.

They’re 1-6 now, meaning they have to win four of their final 10 games to beat me.
With Buffalo (twice), at Denver, at New England, and at Green Bay still left on the schedule I still see them as getting three W’s at most.
Up next, 7 point Dogs at home to Detroit.

College Review

The week started poorly, on Thursday night.
I had the Troy/James Madison game Over 51.
The Dukes scored a touchdown on their first three possessions.
With EIGHT minutes left in the SECOND quarter there were 28 points on the board.
I was well on my way to an easy Over.
But . . .
After scoring a TD on their first three possessions James Madison NEVER scored again.

The game went into OT and I had a chance to win.
All I needed was the team who had the first possession to kick a field goal.
The team that went second in OT would only need to hit a TD for a push or a field goal for a push or a win in the second OT.
And I got what I needed,.
Troy held James Madison on third down.
A chip shot field goal would most likely get me a push at worst.
But . . .
SubGenius Billy Napier decides to go for it on 4th down instead of kicking the go ahead field goal.
Troy’s defense held the Dukes to 0 points in the final 3 1/2 quarters, but Boy Genius decides to go for it.
They’re stopped, and Troy kicks the game-winning field goal.

For the second week in a row, Napier single-handedly cost his team a chance at victory.
Double Digit Favs at home, laying 17 points, and Napier lost straight up.
Moron.

Next up, Navy/Notre Dame Over 56′.
The Irish came up flat and the game stayed Under.

My last chance to get a W and avoid the 0’fer was Northwestern + 3′.
The ‘Cats are up by seven at halftime, which means I’m +10′ for the second half.
They give up 14 points in the fourth quarter and lose by 8 points, completing my 0-3 college week.

Could have been worse, I had to cancel the Notre Dame Q1 bet which would have lost (see my Forum post from early Saturday morning for the explanation.)

On the season, I went from one game over .500 and a small profit to two games under .500.

Need to stop the bleeding this week.
