It’s a Top-15 match-up and probably an elimination game in the SEC when No. 12 Texas A&M hosts No. 14 Auburn Saturday afternoon in College Station. The Aggies are hot, riding a three-game winning streak both straight up and against the spread, which includes that victory over Alabama. And Auburns’s won and covered its last two times out. A&M’s favored by one of those middling numbers in this spot. How are we playing this game with our free college football betting pick?

Auburn-Texas A&M Betting Odds

This week’s college football betting lines opened A&M at -4.5 over Auburn with an over/under of right around 49.5. Both those figures were holding steady in the early betting action. Any bettors out there thinking the Tigers might win this game outright could get upwards of +170 on the college football betting money line.

Auburn College Football Betting Preview

The Tigers are 6-2 on the season after beating Ole Miss last week 31-20. Auburn drove four of its first five possessions of the game to touchdowns and led 28-17 at the half. The Tigers later let the Rebels get within one score midway through the third quarter but tacked on an insurance field goal and held on from there for the victory and the cover as three-point favorites. Auburn produced 483 yards of total offense last week, although it also gave up 464 yards of Ole Miss offense. But the Tigers also out-rushed the Rebs 207-157 and won the time of possession by a 33:27 split. Two games ago, Auburn beat Arkansas 38-23 even though it got out-gained and out-rushed by the Razorbacks. And three games ago, the Tigers lost to Georgia 34-10. At 3-1 in conference play, Auburn trails first-place Alabama by just a half-game in the SEC West and gets the Tide at Jordan-Hare in the season finale. So if the Tigers can get to that point unscathed, they’ll have a chance to play in the SEC championship game.

Texas A&M College Football Betting Preview

The Aggies, meanwhile, are also 6-2 on the season after beating South Carolina two weeks ago 44-14. A&M then enjoyed last week off.

The Aggies took the lead for good against the Gamecocks on a 95-yard punt return for a score two minutes into the game, then scored three touchdowns in eight minutes and led 31-0 at the half. A&M later pushed its advantage to 44-0, on its way toward the easy win and the money as a 20-point favorite.

Texas A&M out-gained South Carolina 477-185, and 170 of the yards the Aggies’ defense gave up came in the fourth quarter. The Aggies also out-rushed the ‘Cocks 290-71 and won the turnover battle 3-1.

Two games ago, A&M won at Missouri 35-14, and three games ago, it beat then-No. 1 Alabama 41-38. So since losing their first two conference games, the Aggies are 3-0, both SU and ATS. At 3-2 in conference play, Texas A&M trails the first-place Tide by one game in the SEC West and owns the head-to-head tie-breaker. The Aggies could find themselves in the SEC title tilt with three more conference wins and a little luck.

Texas A&M impressed us by avoiding letdowns following its big win over Alabama. That’s a sign of a good, mature team. However, Auburn has actually been out-gained and out-rushed two of its last three times out and needed help from both Arkansas and Ole Miss to win those games. Plus, A&M is coming off a bye week. We like the Aggies here, minus the points.
