The Great American Getaway 400 Race at Pocono

Race: The Great American Getaway 400 Presented by VISITPA.COM
Date: Sunday, June 22, 2025
Track: Pocono Raceway
Time: 2:00 PM ET
TV: PRIME

What Did We Learn From Last Weekend?

As predicted, our dark horse, Shane van Gisbergen, took the win at the inaugural race in Mexico City this weekend. Not only did he win, but he essentially stomped the rest of the field with a 16.567 margin over second-place Christopher Bell. This was a weekend of many big numbers, with that margin being the largest since Texas in 2009 and this race itself being the first points paying race outside of the States in more than 50 years. Shane had the pole entering the race and dominantly led 60 of the 100 total circuits of the day.

For native Daniel Suarez, it was evident he was the hometown favorite, especially after winning the Xfinity race on Saturday. He couldn’t muster another outstanding performance, though, and wound up 19th when all was said and done. Christopher Bell’s runner-up finish was notably impressive after starting 31st. Hendrick drivers Chase Elliott and Alex Bowman came in 3rd and 4th, with Michael McDowell finishing 5th. John Hunter Nemechek, Chase Briscoe, Cole Custer, William Byron, and Chris Buescher were the remainder of the top 10 finishers.

Where Are We Headed This Weekend?

The teams have a haul across the border and back through the US as they head to Pocono for this weekend’s race in Long Pond, PA. This 2.5 mile asphalt tri-oval has 14 degrees of banking in turn 1, 8 degrees through turn 2, and 6 degrees in turn 3. This place is 100% about track position and speed. Drivers need to qualify well and stay up front to have any shot at a win here this weekend. Tires used to be a bigger consideration back in the day, before stage racing, but we still see fuel mileage making a name for itself, with track position being the number one critical component here.

Odds and Value Picks

When it comes to picking a winner, there are a few favorites, and they likely won’t be the same guys we saw dominate the road course in Mexico. While van Gisbergen is a great driver, his abilities on these superspeedways isn’t as polished.  We’re going to see some better performances from our veterans on Sunday, with drivers like Custer and Nemechek likely pacing the back of the field. Winner: Christopher Bell (+950)

Bell isn’t the outright best odds at the moment, but I think that many are missing his recent performances in their evaluations. With a runner up finish in Mexico, he’s got momentum leading up to this race along with the 4th best average finish here in recent races beating even Denny Hamlin.

Mid-Range Pick: Bubba Wallace (+3300)

Again, Wallace’s odds aren’t indicative of recent performance. Basically, he was terrible for a long time. He’s figured something out here recently over the last year or so and is putting down some consistent finishes. Recent races have him with the 5th best average finish, and he just tends to run well on these bigger tracks. Look for Wallace to be a contender.

Dark Horse: Erik Jones (+5000)

We haven’t heard much out of Jones lately. He’s been quietly plugging away, but he’s got the 7th best average finish in recent history at Pocono and could possibly pull something together on Sunday. Jones is struggling in points and would love a strong run at one of his better tracks to bolster him into contention.

Top 16 After Last Week’s Race:

  1. 1. William Byron
  2. 2. Kyle Larson
  3. 3. Christopher Bell
  4. 4. Chase Elliott
  5. 5. Denny Hamlin
  6. 6. Tyler Reddick
  7. 7. Ryan Blaney
  8. 8. Ross Chastain
  9. 9. Joey Logano
  10. 10. Bubba Wallace
  11. 11. Chase Briscoe
  12. 12. Alex Bowman
  13. 13. Chris Buescher
  14. 14. Ryan Preece
  15. 15. Austin Cindric
  16. 16. Michael McDowell

McDowell’s strong rallied him 7 positions to capture the bubble position back in the top 16. There wasn’t much other movement around the points from Mexico with our leaderboard. Will Pocono shake things up? Stay tuned and see where these guys land as they head back to the States for this weekend’s running of The Great American Getaway 400!
