Phoenix just took a 3-2 series lead with a Game 5 victory Tuesday night and now it looks like the Lakers might be without one of their Big 2 for Thursday. Who do we like here for today’s NBA pick?

Phoenix leads this series three games to two after winning Game 5 Tuesday night at home 115-85. The Suns led the Davis-less Lakers 34-26 after one quarter, then exploded in the second to lead 66-36 at the half. Phoenix then never let LA get closer than 24 points from there, breezing to the easy win and cover as a 4.5-point favorite. The Suns shot 46 percent from the floor Tuesday, held the Lakers to just 35 percent FG shooting and won the turnover battle 17-4! Phoenix opened this series as a +125 underdog to win it. Then, after losing home-court advantage by splitting the first two games at home, the Suns rose to +275. Now, after re-taking the series lead Phoenix is lined as a -275 favorite, with LA getting +210 as the new dog. The Suns finished nine games ahead of the Lakers in the regular-season standings, 51-21 to 42-30, and took the season series from LA two games to one. So Phoenix is 5-3 both SU and ATS against Los Angeles this season. On the injury front Davis is listed as questionable for Thursday night. On the season the Lakers are 19-18 SU, 15-21 ATS without him. Also, both Phoenix G Chris Paul (shoulder) and LA’s LeBron James (ankle) are hurting, and while they’ll both probably play Thursday how much and how effectively is up for debate.

Momentum rides with the Suns into LA, while the Lakers are hurting. LeBron’s put on some amazing performances over the years but he can’t do it alone, and it will be very difficult against a team the quality of the Suns. We’re surprised Phoenix isn’t favored here. We’ll take the Suns, who shouldn’t even need the points, for our free NBA playoff pick for Thursday.
