Last Monday, the Philadelphia Eagles’ undefeated record was broken in a surprising 32-21 loss to the Washington Commanders. The Eagles turned the ball over 4 times (season-high) and simply made too many mistakes against their NFC East rival and surprisingly displayed one of their worst defensive performances of the year. Despite the loss, the Eagles 8-1 SU record remains the best in the NFL and Philadelphia should have an excellent opportunity to bounce back this Sunday, when they travel to face the struggling Indianapolis Colts at Lucas Oil Stadium.

After firing Head Coach Frank Reich following a 3-5-1 SU start and making an extremely risky decision in the hiring of Interim Head Coach Jeff Saturday, the Colts answered the criticism with a 25-20 victory over the Las Vegas Raiders. In his first game with any meaningful coaching experience, Head Coach Jeff Saturday deplored a run-heavy offense in an attempt to get the Colts’ offense turned around and yet centered around running back Jonathan Taylor. For the opening act experiment, the Colts delivered in all ways. The offensive line played well and Taylor had one of his best performances of the season totaling 147 rushing yards and a touchdown. Needless to say, the victory gave the Colts’ a much needed confidence boost and perhaps provided an identity to the offense. This week the Colts’ offense will get another big test when they face off against an Eagles defense that has allowed just 18 points per game on the season.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Analysis

While Philadelphia appears to be in a perfect bounce back position against an inferior opponent, I am concerned that the Eagles’ defense could be a liability in this match-up. In last week’s surprising loss to the Commanders, the Philadelphia defense was continuously beaten on the ground and eventually gave up more than 150 yards rushing to an underperforming Washington offense. Therefore if the Colts’ renewed focus on the rushing attack with Jonathan Taylor can come up with another solid effort, the Eagles defense could be at a disadvantage on the defensive side of the football.

Luckily even if the Philadelphia defense struggles, the Eagles still have one of the best offenses in the NFC that is capable of high production. QB Jalen Hurts is playing extremely well with 10 touchdown passes and just 1 pick in the last 4 games. In last Monday’s loss to the Commanders, TE Dallas Goedert was lost for the immediate future with a shoulder injury. Obviously, Goedert’s injury is a blow but the Eagles still have a talented duo in the receiving corps in the likes of AJ Brown and DeVonta Smith. Those two dangerous receivers combined with the elusiveness of QB Jalen Hurts should equate to the Eagles offense moving the football effectively against a rather average Colts defense.

Philadelphia Eagles vs. Indianapolis Colts Betting Prediction

I think both offenses are going to have plenty of success in this game with upside match-ups. In terms of the betting side, the Colts renewed focus on the ground game should give them their best opportunity but I cannot bet against the Eagles given the way QB Jalen Hurts has been playing. As a result, I think the better bet for this contest is around the “over.”
