Predictem NFL Archives for October 2009

Eagles RB Hurt: RB Brian Westbrook took a “head to knee” shot and sustained a concussion in doing so. He’s likely to miss next week’s game vs. the NYG.

Week 7 Monday Night Football Preview and Pick:
Philadelphia Eagles vs. Washington Redskins

QB Change: The Bucs have apparently given up on QB Josh Johnson. Josh Freeman came in for mop up duty at the end of their Week 7 game in which the Patriots destroyed them. Expect Freeman to start the next Bucs game, but for the result to be very similar to the last 7, another L. The San Francisco 49ers are also switching things up benching Shaun Hill and starting Alex Smith who looked GOOD last week at Houston.

Uh Oh: If Chiefs RB Larry Johnson is trying to get himself cut or benched, he’s off to a good start after critizing coach Haley on his Twitter account about “not having any NFL playing experience”. Expect the media to have a field day with this. Speaking of people with no regard for their jobs, what’s up with Raiders coach Cable stating the team will keep Jamarcus Russell as their starting QB after their 38-0 drubbing by the Jets. LOL.

Week 7 In Game and Postgame Injuries: The Dolphins are reporting that CB Will Allen will miss the rest of the season with a torn ACL. Jets RB Leon Washington is out for the season after busting his fibula (OUCH!). Saints DT Sedric Ellis left Sunday’s game with a sprained knee and is to be further checked out Monday. Packers TE Jermichael Finley sprained his knee during the Browns game and is likely to miss some time.

Lynch Takes Over: Bills RB Marshawn Lynch appears to have taken over the starting tailback position in Buffalo. While not a huge surprise, it’s kind of interesting that they wouldn’t stick with two back mix because of how effective Fred Jackson was during Lynch’s suspension.

Week 7 Sunday Night Football Predictions: (10/25)
Arizona Cardinals vs. New York Giants

Week 7 Sunday National Football League Picks: (10/25)
Minnesota Vikings vs. Pittsburgh Steelers
Green Bay Packers vs. Cleveland Browns
Indianapolis Colts vs. St. Louis Rams
San Diego Chargers vs. Kansas City Chiefs
San Francisco 49ers vs. Houston Texans
New England Patriots vs. Tampa Bay Buccaneers
Chicago Bears vs. Cincinnati Bengals
Buffalo Bills vs. Carolina Panthers
New Orleans Saints vs. Miami Dolphins
Atlanta Falcons vs. Dallas Cowboys
New York Jets vs. Oakland Raiders

Week 7 NFL Byes: Baltimore Ravens, Denver Broncos, Detroit Lions, Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks, Tennessee Titans.

Steeler job Stolen: RB Rashard Mendenhall has surpassed RB Willie Parker on the depth chart. The more we see of Rashard, the more see the second coming of Thurman Thomas.

Browns Get Worse? LB D’Qwell Jackson is out for the season with a torn pec. He was the only guy on that side of the ball making tackles. Ouch.

Reunited and it Feels So Good! The Packers have signed RB Ahman Green who is likely to take over as the 3rd down back. – 10/21

Week 7 NFL Notes: The Eagles have suffered a huge blow losing MLB Omar Gaither for the year to injury. Falcons RB Jerious Norwood has a hip pointer and may miss a few weeks of action. Redskins head coach Jim Zorn has been relieved of playcalling duties. Sherm Lewis takes over the duty now. Lewis has a good track record dating back to the mid nineties Packers and the 49ers even earlier than that.

More Bad News for ‘Skins: Tackle Chris Samuels will miss the rest of the season with spinal stenosis. A huge blow to an offense that was already struggling to get anything done.

Trade: The Chicago Bears have acquired Gaines Adams from the TB Buccaneers in exchange for a 2010 4th round draft pick. Adams has more or less been a bust. Maybe the change of venue will do him some good. Don’t count on it though.

Trade Deadline Looms: Rumors have Browns QB Brady Quinn possiblly leaving C-Town. Word is his house is for sale as well. More rumors to come as many are breaking…

Week 6 NFL Byes: Dallas Cowboys, Indianapolis Colts, Miami Dolphins, San Francisco 49ers.

Group Shuns Talk Show Host: A group looking to purchase the Rams in order to keep them in St. Louis, have removed Rush Limbaugh from the group after an uprising about past comments he’s made regarding black athletes.

Week 6 NFL Notes: The Steelers SHOULD get Troy Polamalu and Willie Parker back this week from injury. Despite the Bills crappy play, the team has no plans to make a coaching change. The St. Louis Rams plan on having Marc Bulger start in their next game. Steelers DE Aaron Smith has a shoulder injury and could be out indefinitely. Check back often as we post news here as it breaks! Colts kicker Adam Vinatieri will miss around 6 weeks with an injury.

Don’t Blame Derek! The Cleveland Browns barely got by the Bills in their 6-3 win at Buffalo. Don’t blame QB Derek Anderson for the lack of offense though. His receivers dropped NINE balls Sunday!

Post Week 5 Injury Report: Chiefs tackle Branden Albert went down with an ankle injury. This is horrible news for the KC as their offensive line is already weak which is one of the reasons they can’t get a decent run-game going. Eagles cornerback Ellis Hobbs injuried his wrist and is going to have an MRI. Asante Samuel is also hurt with a calf injury (not sure of seriousness yet), so if those 2 are OUT that would leave Philly’s secondary quite depleted. If this happens, look for teams to throw on them and for there to be some value in “over bets”. More Bad News for Bills: This defense has already suffered a few years worth of injuries this season. It didn’t get any better Sunday as Kawika Mitchell and Marcus Buggs were both carted off the field and might be lost for the season. The Seattle Seahawks haven’t had it much better than the Bills when it comes to injuries. Tackle Brandon Frye went down with a neck/shoulder injury Sunday. Titans cornerback Nick Harper broke his forearm Sunday night and it out indefinitely. Tennessee’s secondary was already BAD, now it just got worse. Rams tackle Gary Gibson broke a bone in his foot and will miss the remainder of the season. The bad just got worse. Lions wide receiver Calvin Johnson hurt his knee and his status is questionable.

Washington Redskins vs. Carolina Panthers

Atlanta Falcons vs. San Francisco 49ers

Week 5 NFL Notes: Both QB Donovan McNabb and RB Brian Westbrook will play for the Eagles this week. Rumors out of New England are that 40 year old LB Junior Seau will be signing with the Pats. Broncos RB Correll Buckhalter is likely out for a couple weeks with a high ankle sprain. Patriots RB Fred Taylor is out indefinitely as he needs surgery to repair severe ligament damage in his right ankle. Check back often as new info is added here as it breaks!

Now Shut up and Play! The Niners and WR Michael Crabtree have finally agreed to a 6 year deal! 49ers fans rejoice. About damn time! – 10/7

NFL Week 5 Byes: Chicago Bears, Green Bay Packers, New Orleans Saints, San Diego Chargers

Week 4 Monday Night Football Picks: (10/5)
Green Bay Packers vs. Minnesota Vikings

More Injury News: Cowboys WR Roy Williams sustained a rib cartilage injury in Sunday’s loss vs. Denver. He will likely miss at least a week if not longer. Raiders RB Darren McFadden has a miniscus injury and will miss 2-4 weeks. Can it get any worse for Team Al Davis?

Week 4 Sunday Night Football Preview and Pick: (10/4)
San Diego Chargers vs. Pittsburgh Steelers

Sunday Injuries: Bears WR Devin Hester left today’s game with a shoulder injury. Giants QB Eli Manning left the game with a heel injury. Lions QB Matt Stafford left the game with a twisted knee, but it doesn’t appear to be serious. More updates as they come avaiilable. – 10/4

NFL Teams to Bet Against – David Lane talks about teams that have been and are good to bet against so far in the 2009 season. This will of course evolve into fat point spreads if these teams continue to suck, which would then change the value to betting against the bad teams to betting on them, but for now it appears that the Vegas oddsmakers have yet to adjust properly.

Week 4 Teams on Byes: Atlanta, Philadelphia, Arizona, Carolina
