Indiana Fever at Las Vegas Aces
As expected, Atlanta eliminated Washington last night and I picked up another unit. I’m 32-26 for the season now. It hasn’t been easy, but I do have a decent profit for the year and I’m guaranteed to win my Battle with the Books for the WNBA 2026 season.
So I have a unit in my pocket from the playoffs. What to do with it?
I’d like to bank it, but there are too many games left and I’ve got some feelings about tonight’s elimination game between Caitlin Clark and Sophie Cunningham’s Indiana Fever and A’ja Wilson and the Las Vegas Aces.
With the Atlanta Dream advancing to Round 2, it sets up the league office for their dream scenario, in which they can say, “Angel Reese was able to carry her team into Round 2 while Caitlin Clark failed to do so.”
Such is their love for the one-dimensional Reese. And such is their hatred for the multi-talented Clark.
The league, the players, the coaches, the refs, and the announcers are all against Caitlin, openly. At this point, they don’t care how obvious it is or who knows it.
Think I’m exaggerating?
Tuesday night, Caitlin Clark had a double-double for points and assists IN JUST THE FIRST HALF. She became the first player in WNBA history to have a double-double in the first half of a playoff game.
When the halftime show began, was the first story they talked about Clark making WNBA history?
Of course not.
The first clip they played and the first words out of their mouths were used to trash Clark for complaining to the refs after getting fouled while shooting — a foul the refs ignored, as usual when it comes to Caitlin — and not getting back to play defense.
Welcome to the WNBA. I’m not a conspiracy theorist, but I’m also not blind.
Clark’s teammate Sophie Cunningham is the second most hated player in the league next to Caitlin because she dared to speak out against transgender athletes competing in women’s sports. The other night, I watched Sophie get elbowed in the neck, resulting in the obvious foul — called on Sophie!
And it’s been that way for Caitlin all season long.
Correction: throughout all of her career in the WNBA.
Honestly, bluntly, and dead accurate — there’s just no way the league lets Sophie and Caitlin advance in the playoffs. Not if there’s anything they can do about it, and they can. Just watch the refs tonight.
Most professional sports leagues would want their most popular players to advance in the playoffs. But most professional sports leagues make money.
While the WNBA proudly and loudly celebrates its 30th anniversary this season, it conveniently fails to mention that the league has lost money every season. Of course, this doesn’t stop the complaints that WNBA players deserve better pay, like the men in the NBA make.
I don’t see the league allowing Caitlin and Sophie to advance to Round 2.
I expect cheap, dirty play from Wilson and the Aces.
I expect the refs to allow them to get away with it.
I expect there to be blood, literally.
And I expect the people who run the WNBA to continue to kill their Golden Goose and continue to lose money. Petty, ugly, jealous people who don’t care about the fans.
What Does My WF1 Model Say?
But I have more than just a feeling on tonight’s game.
My WF1 model for picking Wrong Favorites says Indy should be the Fav tonight. They’re the third team to qualify this postseason. The record is 0-2.
I’m Fading the spot.
I hope I’m wrong. I hope Indiana gets a fair shake tonight, but that would be going against what this league has consistently shown the world.
All that said, I don’t like the -4½.
I found the Aces at -1½ for just -156, but though it’s at one of the most popular online books in the world, it’s not at any of our sponsors and it’s a freak line that many readers won’t be able to get, so I won’t use it.
But I’m not laying -4.
I almost never buy points, but I’m going to in this game. Just a gut feeling.
I see -3, -143 at one of our sponsors. I may grab that, but not until after I shop around a little bit more.
Regardless of what number I get, tonight is one of those rare times when I’m making a bet and actually hope I lose it.
Check the PredictEm Forum later today for the number I buy and a possible prop added.
