Tennessee Titans at New York Giants

New York is a 2.5-point home favorite over Tennessee with a total of 39.5. My play is the Titans getting the points.
The line movement here is dramatic. This game opened with the Giants as 5.5-point favorites with a total of 45.5. It has moved all the way to Giants -2.5 with a total of 39.5. That’s a 3-point spread swing toward Tennessee and a 5-point total drop. When both spread and total move that aggressively in the same directional pattern before kickoff, the market is telling us something specific: the Titans got healthier, the Giants got hurt, and both offenses are compromised.
The specific reason for the swing is Jaxson Dart. The Giants’ second-year quarterback suffered a knee injury on Monday Night Football against the Rams and is not expected to play Sunday. Jameis Winston steps in at quarterback for New York. Winston is a proven NFL veteran with real starting experience, but he’s a significant downgrade from a healthy Dart in both consistency and playmaking ability. Malik Nabers was also hurt on Monday night, and while he may play, his status is uncertain — he’ll be limited even if he suits up.
That’s a Giants offense playing without their starting QB and possibly missing their #1 receiver. Against a Titans defense under Robert Saleh that has real talent up front, New York will struggle to sustain drives and score consistently. Saleh is a defensive-minded coach who game-plans specifically to attack backup quarterbacks and force turnovers. Winston has historically been an interception risk (he’s had multiple seasons with 15+ picks), and that risk is amplified against Saleh’s schemes.
Tennessee is 0-2 but the losses have been to legitimate opponents (Jets and Eagles). Cam Ward has struggled with efficiency, but the Titans have shown they can compete when the game slows down. Against a Winston-led Giants offense that will produce more three-and-outs than sustained drives, Tennessee should have opportunities to control the game with their run game and defensive stops.
The Under 39.5 has real merit here too, but the side pick is cleaner. Getting nearly a field goal from the road with a compromised opposing offense is exactly the type of setup that produces backdoor covers or outright upsets. Winston will make plays, but he’ll also make mistakes, and the resulting game script favors the Titans staying within the small number.
Realistic outcomes: Giants 20, Titans 17 (3-point margin, Titans push +2.5); Titans 20, Giants 17 (Titans win outright); Giants 17, Titans 14 (3-point margin, push); or Giants 24, Titans 17 (7-point margin, doesn’t cover). Three of four scenarios cover or push for Tennessee. Only if Winston plays out of his mind and Nabers is fully healthy does the Giants dominate this game.
The Pick: Tennessee Titans +2.5
