Carolina Panthers at Philadelphia Eagles
Sunday, October 18, 2026
1:00 PM ET, Lincoln Financial Field
The Philadelphia Eagles are 1.5-point favorites over the Carolina Panthers, and the total is 40.5. My play is the Panthers +1.5.
Back in the spring, this game was Eagles by 6.5. Five points have leaked out of that number since, and I’m not sure the market has let out enough air.
Philly’s “week from hell” didn’t end in London
Jordan Mailata called the stretch that brought Lane Johnson’s retirement and the Cam Jurgens trade the “week from hell,” and he wasn’t being dramatic. Landon Dickerson is on injured reserve, too, so the line that used to bully people now has three new starters from Week 1. Then the Eagles flew to London and lost to Jacksonville on a 57-yard field goal as time expired, set up by a 53-yard kickoff return they let happen.
That’s three straight losses, and the offense is the reason. The Eagles ran for 22 yards against the Jaguars. They haven’t scored a second-half touchdown since Week 2. By success rate, which is simply the share of plays that keep an offense on schedule, they rank dead last in the NFL.
Help might be coming, but nobody knows how much. Saquon Barkley (hamstring), DeVonta Smith (hamstring) and Hollywood Brown are all questionable, and Nick Sirianni has only said he’s hopeful on Barkley. Even if Saquon suits up, he’s running behind a rebuilt line with almost no reps together. Hope isn’t a blocking scheme.

Bryce Young is nobody’s punchline anymore
Remember when Young was the cautionary tale of the 2023 draft? Through four games he has nine touchdown passes against two picks, and he leads the league in passing yards per game. Carolina’s passing attack ranks sixth in EPA per play, which is a nerdy way of saying the Panthers pick up real, useful yardage almost every time they drop back.
He’s doing it with people in his face, too. Through Week 4, Young led the NFL in passing yards under pressure. That matters against a Vic Fangio defense that gets home with four rushers and has Jalen Carter wrecking things up the middle. Carter had two strip-sacks in London, and he’s the one guy in green who can ruin this pick by himself. But Young has already shown he can take the hit and still find Tetairoa McMillan, who torched Detroit for 14 catches and 192 yards in the last game Carolina played.
And that last game was two weeks ago. The Panthers are coming off a bye. The Eagles are coming home from an overseas trip and a gut-punch loss. In mid-October, that gap in legs is real.
The case against me
Carolina’s cornerback room is held together with tape. Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson are both on injured reserve, and fill-in starter Akayleb Evans was picked on for 208 yards in coverage against the Lions, according to Next Gen Stats. If Smith is back, Jalen Hurts finally has someone to go after that matchup with. The Panthers have their own line questions, with Taylor Moton just back at practice after treatment for blood clots and rookie right tackle Monroe Freeling dealing with a knee injury. Philly has also won the last two meetings, and a desperate home team with Carter on the field won’t hand this away.
I still trust the healthy, rested quarterback who is playing the best football of his career over an offense that can’t find the end zone after halftime. If the line slides to a pick’em or Carolina +1, I’m still on it. The moneyline near -105 is a fine way to play it, too.
Projected score: Panthers 24, Eagles 19. Young makes three or four throws Philly can’t answer, and the Eagles’ second-half drought keeps going.
The Pick: Panthers +1.5
