New Orleans Saints at New York Giants
Sunday, October 18, 2026
1:00 PM ET, MetLife Stadium
The Saints are 1.5-point road favorites with a total of 45.5. My play is Giants +1.5.
Read that again. The 1-4 Saints, losers of three straight, are slight favorites on the road against the team sitting alone atop the NFC East. The market has decided Jameis Winston is a liability and Tyler Shough is due for a bounce-back. The ratings, the home form, and the Saints’ defense all say otherwise.
New York already passed the Winston test
Jaxson Dart is done for the regular season with a knee injury. Winston has started since, and the Giants are 2-0-1 straight up and 3-0 against the spread in that stretch. He threw three touchdowns in a win over Arizona. He erased a double-digit second-half hole against Washington before the overtime circus ended 27-27. He is not surgical. He is good enough — especially against a New Orleans defense giving up 30.2 points per game, 31st in the NFL.
Malik Nabers and tight end Isaiah Likely both ate in that Washington game. They should find soft spots again. The Saints’ defensive expected-points rate ranks 26th; opposing offenses are averaging nearly half a point per play against them. That is not a unit you trust to protect a road favorite.
Shough’s cold stretch meets MetLife
Tyler Shough looked like a dark-horse story after New Orleans upset Baltimore in Week 2. The last three games have cooled that talk. He failed to throw for 100 yards against Minnesota, and the Saints have dropped three in a row to Las Vegas, Atlanta, and the Vikings. Season line: 1,299 yards, nine touchdowns, five interceptions. The left hand is healthy enough for full practice. The supporting cast is not at full strength — Alvin Kamara is questionable with a back issue, and the offensive line is missing Jeremiah Wright (concussion).
New Orleans still finishes in the red zone at an elite 81 percent clip when it gets there, and Chris Olave has 537 receiving yards. This offense can score. The question is whether it can outpace a Giants team that has been covering every number MetLife hands it. New York is 3-0 against the spread at home and 4-1 ATS overall.

The number that walked the wrong way
This game opened Giants -2.5. It has flipped to Saints -1.5. TeamRankings’ predictive ratings still have New York about two points better than New Orleans before home field — call the true side Giants by around four. Betting the Saints as road chalk is paying a tax on Winston’s reputation and a three-game Saints skid that the market somehow turned into a positive. Fade the flip.
Why I could be wrong
Winston will throw one into the third row eventually; that is part of the package. If that pick becomes a Saints touchdown and Shough rediscovers the Week 2 version of himself, New Orleans cashes as a short favorite. Kamara’s availability is a swing factor. And any game priced near a pick’em with a 45.5 total can get weird in a hurry. Still: home ATS machine, better power rating, and a defense that actually prevents points versus one that does not. Give me the points.
Projected score: Giants 27, Saints 23.
