WSU Coach, Mike Leach, says Cougars took a Step in Right Direction

After publicly shaming his team from their losses to UCLA at home 67-63 and Utah, 38-13 on the road, Coach Leach was more positive even in the loss at Arizona State last weekend 38-34. However, Washington State must find a way to stop opposing offenses, or they will be home for the holidays. Offensively, WSU can hang with any program in the country, but it will be the defense that ultimately gets this team in the right direction and back to the win column.

Colorado needs a full turnaround to play in the Palouse

The Buffaloes are licking their wounds after a dismal performance at Oregon last week. Colorado’s coaching staff challenged the players to be better this week in all aspects of the game and life, which included on and off the field issues. The Buffaloes certainly have the potential to upset the Cougars this weekend, but they will need to regroup and execute on both sides of the pigskin. I’m not sure this program, and these players can rebound so quickly, especially on the road in Martin Stadium with a hungry WSU squad looking to hammer down a W at home.

How the Public is Betting the Game

The lion’s share of the public money is landing on WSU with 64 percent of the point spread bets. The Over/Under wagering is close to even with 52 percent on the OVER and 48 percent UNDER.

Injury Concerns

Colorado: DE M. Johnson, ankle—questionable. DT J. Jordan, groin—questionable. DT J. Sami, knee—questionable TE J. Harris, undisclosed injury—unknown if he will play. WSU: WR B. Arconado, lower-body injury—unknown if he will play.

When Colorado has the Ball

To put it bluntly, the Buffaloes are not very good right now. They are coming off a beat down at Oregon last week 45-3. When they have the ball, they tend to go backward because of a plethora of penalties. They had several offensive penalties alone the previous week versus the Ducks. The only hope for Colorado is to get the run game established and cut the penalties down.

When Washington State has the Ball

The Cougars will score their points as they average 40 plus per game. The air-raid offense has been very productive despite the losses. WSU QB Alex Gordon is no Gardner Minshew, but he has the potential to put up a lot of passing yards and TDS with all the targets in this offense. Gordon tries to do too much at times, costing the Cougs by way of interceptions or turnover on downs. If the Cougars stick to their offense and Gordon makes good decisions, they should have no trouble moving the ball downfield against an arguably worse defense than Washington State’s.

Why Bet on the Home favorite?

Both defenses are terrible—however, it is Washington State’s offense that has the advantage. They are at home where they average over 50 points a game, and this is a must-win situation for the Cougs if they want a shot at getting closer to being bowl game eligible. Colorado had trouble putting points on the board last week and, coupled with their penalty problems could hurt them again this week on the road. The Cougs should have no problem covering this current line.

Betting Trends

  • Over is 4-0 in Buffaloes last four games after giving up 450 total yards in the previous game.
  • Buffaloes are 1-7 ATS in their last eight conference games.
  • Buffaloes are 0-4-1 ATS in the last five games after allowing more than 40 points in the previous game.
Head to Head: Favorite is 4-0 in their last four meetings.
