The 9th ranked Florida State Seminoles will take their undefeated campaign on the road this Saturday as they travel into Atlanta for a showdown with the Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets inside Bobby Dodd Stadium. Surprisingly the Yellow Jackets are losers of 5 straight games despite several close losses including last weeks defeat to Pitt 31-28. The awful start has been quite shocking considering the Yellow Jackets reached 11 wins last year including an Orange Bowl victory marking Johnsons best season in Atlanta to date. Now Georgia Tech is in trouble of missing out on a bowl opportunity for the first time since 1996 if they cannot get things turned around in a hurry.
If Georgia Tech can find a way to right the ship, it will be hard earned with the Seminoles coming into town. Florida State is right there with Clemson as the best teams in the ACC with a perfect 6-0 SU record. In fact, the Seminoles have for the most part been unmatched this season with the exception of their game against Miami which was the only game that they won by a touchdown or less this year. Coach Jimbo Fisher has field another very talented team this season that is doing good things on both sides of the ball. The defense ranks 24th overall allowing just 326 yards per game and offensively the Noles have averaged 33.5 points per game.

The question for the Seminoles this week is will they have an answer for Georgia Techs rugged triple option attack? Despite being riddled with a ton of injuries, the Yellow Jackets have still averaged 286 yards per game as the 8th best rushing team in college football. However, offensively the team has not done much else. They are among the bottom 6 teams in the country in terms of passing and quarterback Justin Thomas has been terrible completing just 44% passing.
Obviously Thomas is more of a rushing quarterback which is normal for Paul Johnsons signal callers. However the passing efficiency has been dreadful and a big reason that Georgia Tech has failed to win close games because the offense has not been able to move the football through the air as needed in the closing minutes of football games. I am sure that Georgia Tech will keep the ball on the ground this Saturday as they always do. However, the Yellow Jackets really need to hit a few plays in the passing game to startle defenses from loading the box. Florida State is extremely talented among the defensive side of the football. Therefore if Georgia Tech is unable to hit at least a few passes, I am not sure they are going to keep the Seminoles defense on their heels for all 4 quarters without just a little bit of balance.
For Florida State, they have been very balanced on the offensive side of the ball. Quarterback Everett Golson has been outstanding and running back Dalvin Cook has been possibly even better. Golson has yet to throw an interception this season and has completed 67% of his passes which have totaled 1,449 yards with 11 touchdowns. Cook on the other hand has dominated the ground game with 955 rushing yards and 10 games through the first half of the season. To put things into perspective, Cook is on pace to potentially clip the 2,000 yard barrier. If you add in how effective Golson has been throwing the football, it is easy to see why this Florida State team is still undefeated. It is going to take a great defensive showing and possibly a few mistakes from Florida State to derail their momentum.
Jay’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I know Georgia Tech has kept games close this season but I believe they will be overmatched in this game similar to the way they were against Clemson. The Seminoles will keep moving the football and score enough to force Georgia Tech into some desperate situations which will only make things worse. Take Florida State -6.5
