The Week 7 college football betting market opened Colorado at -11 over Stanford, with an over/under of right around 59. Both figures were holding steady in the early betting action.

Stanford-Colorado Betting Preview

The Cardinal are 1-4 on the season and 0-3 in PAC-12 play after falling at home to Oregon two weeks ago 42-6. Stanford then had last week off.

The Cardinal, as 27-point underdogs, actually led the Ducks 6-0 well into the second quarter and only trailed 14-6 at the half. But they let the game get away from them in the second half and came up short ATS by a couple of scores.

Stanford got out-gained by Oregon 506-222 and out-rushed 208-89.

Two games ago the Cardinal lost to Arizona 21-20; three weeks ago they lost to FCS Sacramento State 30-23; and four games ago they lost to USC 56-10.

Stanford only returned just six starters this season, its first under Coach Taylor, from a team that played 1-8 in the PAC-12 last year. So this program is in full rebuild mode at the moment.

Meanwhile, the Buffaloes just snapped a two-game losing skid with a 27-24 win at Arizona State last Saturday. Colorado spotted the Sun Devils the first seven points of the game and trailed 17-14 at the half. The Buffs later led 24-17, allowed ASU to tie it at 24 with under a minute to go but drove 50 yards in two plays to a game-winning field goal.

Colorado actually got out-gained by Arizona State 392-295, managed just 58 yards on the ground and lost time of possession by a 35:25 split. And that’s against a 1-4 Sun Devils team.

The Buffaloes opened this season with wins over TCU, Nebraska and Colorado State; none of those teams own winning records, either. Colorado then lost badly to Oregon, then fell to USC 48-41, and that game wasn’t as close as that final score might indicate.

The Buffs only returned eight starters this season, their first under Coach Sanders, from a team that played 1-8 in the PAC-12 last season. So Colorado is also going through a complete rebuild at the moment. But at least they’ve won a few games already.

These two teams have played two common opponents this season, USC and Oregon. The Buffaloes lost to the Trojans and Ducks by a combined score of 90-47, Stanford by 96-16.

Based on quarterback play alone Colorado should win this game. And the Buffs are just the more talented team overall. But Stanford owns the better running game, such as it is, and maybe even the better defense, such as it is. Also, playing against the unending hype and in Boulder means the spread is probably inflated toward the Buffaloes by 3-4 (or more ?) points. We won’t call for the outright upset but we’ll take the Cardinal plus the points.
