Oklahoma State is a 7.5-point home favorite over UCF with a total of 51.5. My play is the Knights getting the points.

UCF’s defense is the entry point here. The Knights allow 17.6 points per game, 32nd nationally, and they’ve kept every game this season within reach. Even on the road, where UCF has struggled, the Knights lost just 12-7 at Pittsburgh and 27-17 at No. 20 Houston last week. At home they held TCU to 13 in a 21-13 win to open Big 12 play. This is a defense that keeps games low and keeps UCF close.

Ball security also favors the Knights. UCF has committed just five turnovers in five games, while Oklahoma State has turned it over eight times in four games, including five interceptions thrown by Drew Mestemaker. In a game decided by one or two possessions, a turnover or two from a quarterback who has been loose with the football is exactly how an underdog covers.

UCF can move the ball when its quarterback is right. Keyone Jenkins completed 19 of 20 passes against TCU to set a school completion-percentage record, and the Knights average 32.4 points per game. His health is the key to this game, as he’s been banged up, so check his status before kickoff. With Jenkins on the field and a defense allowing fewer than 18 points per game, UCF should be able to land in the 20-24 range.

The risk is Oklahoma State’s offense. The Cowboys are 3-1, averaging 37.3 points and 548.3 yards per game (2nd nationally), and they throw for 327 yards per game (7th). UCF’s pass defense ranks 94th, so Mestemaker will have chances to push the ball downfield. The Cowboys’ defense is also solid, allowing 19.8 points per game and just 158.5 passing yards per game. But an offense that leans this heavily on the pass and has already thrown five interceptions is going to give a disciplined UCF defense opportunities, and the Knights have been within 10 points in every game this season.

Realistic outcomes: Oklahoma State 27, UCF 21 (6-point margin, UCF covers +7.5); Oklahoma State 24, UCF 20 (4-point margin, UCF covers); UCF 24, Oklahoma State 21 (UCF wins outright); or Oklahoma State 34, UCF 20 (14-point margin, doesn’t cover). Three of four scenarios cover for UCF.

The Pick: UCF Knights +7.5
