Set the table and hide the kids Granny, the Utah Utes
are coming to Provo this Saturday night! Yep, Provo is setting up for this
annual Holy War matchup quite nicely! The Utah student Pep Club are assembling
a battalion of students dressed in dark blue suits with name tags riding
bicycles while the BYU Pep Club counters draping their students in T-shirts
carrying fake beer cans! As perverse as that might seem to the casual sports
fan, let it be known; Utah and BYU do not Like Like each other in the
least, little bit! Utah comes in beating Utah State, destroying Weber State
(70-7!), and losing to Oregon State 51-48. BYU lost their opener to Virginia
19-16 but absolutely humiliated visiting Texas last week 40-21! Lets take
a closer look at this Holy War to pick a winner.

BYU isnt playing football correctly. BYU has always had gaudy numbers of offensive production, but most of these yards historically have come through the air. This year, BYU is freakin running the ball like the old Oklahoma Wishbone of the Barry Switzer era! QB Taysom Hill is leading a BYU attack that sits 2nd in the nation in rushing and Holy Lavell Edwards 109th in passing prompting long time BYU supporter and liposuction activist Marie Osmond to Tweet during the Texas game #rushing?? WTF yall! Sling the rock punk a** fo shizzle!! Taysom is a Busta! (satire). Taysom Hall is The Show and the show is ON in Provo! 737 rushing yards and 304 yards passing is what BYU has racked in total offense in 2 games. Sophomore RB Jamaal Williams leads the way with 326 yards on the ground while fellow Sophomore Taysom Hill is following close behind with 301 yards rushing. QB Hill isnt quite as proficient through the air completing just 22 of 66 pass attempts for 304 yards. On Defense, BYU is 36th in the nation which is quite respectable indeed. Led by linebacker Kyle Van Noy, BYU stymied and confused Mack Brown towards dementia and retirement. The Cougars are bringing the Whoopin Stick to the Holy War and the Utes better be aware: This alter call is almost for real!

Utah scores points. Except for the Weber State game, the Utes allow points too! The Utes like to throw the ball around the yard to the tune of 85 times in 3 games (half of the Weber State game they ran it exclusively). Utah is 17th in the Nation in total offense and even throwing out the Weber State game (Weber State is not good!), Utah is still 26th in the nation in total offense. On Defense, Utah is tied for 14th in the nation in rushing defense giving up only 96.7 yards per game. Utah is also 112th in passing defense which makes this game with BYU very interesting! Utah is awesome upfront on the defensive line. The Utah linebackers cover the under routes as well as anybody in college football. The secondary is the Achilles Heel of the Utah defense. Lets look for the major keys to this game.

Utah QB Travis Wilson is a good passer and also a good runner. BYU QB Taysom Hill is a good runner but an inefficient passer. Both defenses are pretty similar in makeup and efficiency. The nod has to go to Utah QB Wilson who can throw the rock just like Marie Osmond likes it (satire)! I cant believe I am saying this but: The Utah defense is not like the weak Texas defense that BYU faced last week. Utah has pretty much dominated this series since the early 90s going 13-7 in the last 20 meetings between the schools without regard for where this game is played. 9th year Utah Head Coach Kyle Whittingham knows how important this game is; hes a BYU graduate! Former The U Head Coach Dennis Erickson is Utahs Offensive Coordinator and he knows a little bit about winning as well! This is an intense rivalry bringing out many emotions in and around Provo, Utah. The LDS has even lifted the 6:15 pm curfew on all people under the age of 70! (its all a joke!) Soda pop and pretzels (w/out salt) will be flowing in bars throughout Utah for this matchup contesting the Mitt Romney Holy War Just Lost by Percentage Points Trophy! It is time to pick a winner!

Tims Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Utah +7 (and SU!)
