Friday night, ESPN will air a Pac-12 showdown between the UCLA
Bruins
and the Washington Huskies. This isn’t your big time rivalry,
but this is a good matchup that could possibly have some Pac-12 title game
implications. UCLA comes into this game at 7-2 overall and 4-2 in the conference.
Washington sits at 6-3 overall and a .500 record of 3-3 within the Pac-12.
UCLA comes into this game as a three point favorite, and just like many
of the west coast matchups, the public expects a shootout, seeing as how
the over under is set at 60.5 total points. These two teams did not face
off last season which found Washington finishing right in the middle of
the pack, while the University of California Los Angeles made it all the way to the conference title game that
they lost to Stanford by a score of 27-24. Chances are UCLA will not be
making a trip back to the title game this season, but 2nd year coach, Jim
Mora has changed the culture of the program. I like this game for the sheer
reason that I love offense. I see a shootout on the horizon that could seriously
go either way in the end.

UCLA has always been synonymous with basketball. A successful sports year would
be a Final Four appearance, and just don’t get destroyed by USC in football.
Well, things are changing at UCLA. Jim Mora has the football team on the
map in a big way. They already appeared in last years conference title game,
and this season, they have knocked off Nebraska but did lose their two biggest
games to Stanford and Oregon. UCLA still has some work to do but they are
gaining respect which is obvious by their top 15 ranking. They have lots
of offensive fire power, but not only that, they are only giving up about
22 points per game, which in the college football world isn’t too bad, especially
this day and age. I like this team a lot, and if their QB, Brett Hundley
returns next year for his senior season, they may be a contender for a Pac-12
and BCS title run. The key to this game is simple…a fast start. If UCLA
can jump out early and put up some big numbers, they can run away from the
Huskies before the Zend of the 3rd quarter.

Washington comes into this battle unranked with a record of 6-3. Statistically, Washington is a heck of a football team. The Huskies rank in the top 25 in passing offense, rushing offense, and points scored. These guys are good…much better than they are usually given credit for. A record of 6-3 is not too impressive, but lets not forget that two of their losses (Oregon and Stanford) are also the same two teams that took down UCLA. This Washington/UCLA matchup is a lot closer than most people think. Your average fan would think that UCLA would win this game big. How do I know? Because I actually asked around today. I live in Atlanta…SEC country, and the consensus from people I asked about this game before writing this article was overwhelmingly in favor of the Bruins. Washington can win this game and that isn’t a stretch at all. This game is going to be a shootout. The goal for the Huskies should be to make sure they do not turn the ball over. If you read my articles often, you know that many times I say that’s my key to the game; that’s because its true. In games like this, you already know the opponent will score, you cannot allow them easy points. You must make them earn everything. If Washington can play a clean game, they can win this thing.

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I am going to cut right to the chase here. This game will not be close. This game will be a one-sided blow out and will be over early into the 3rd quarter. It is obvious who will win this game and cover the spread. 70% of you out there have your money on the Bruins. Of the eight people I asked today, all eight said UCLA wins big. That has made my pick very easy. This game will be a blowout and when its all said and done, UCLA will have suffered their 3rd loss of the season. Washington will win this game in a big way. They will silence the UCLA crowd and win this game 34-21. PICK THE WASHINGTON HUSKIES +2.5
