Jacksonville’s defense is the entry point here. The Jaguars rank No. 1 in the NFL in EPA per pass on defense, 4th in EPA per play and 8th in success rate. They’re allowing just 12.0 points per game, the fewest in the league. In Week 3 they made Drake Maye look like a backup, holding New England to six points in a 35-6 rout and forcing three turnovers — a 32-yard interception return by Jarrian Jones, an end-zone pick by Travis Hunter and a fumble recovery by DaVon Hamilton. Joe Burrow is a different class of quarterback than Maye, and the Jaguars won’t dominate him the same way, but this is the best pass defense Cincinnati has seen all season.
The offense has held up its end too. Jacksonville ranks 5th in the NFL in EPA per play, while Cincinnati ranks 9th. Trevor Lawrence has seven touchdown passes against two interceptions in his second year under Liam Coen, and he threw three more against New England. The Jaguars are averaging 27.3 points per game, and they lead the league with a +23.9% third-down conversion differential over their opponents. That’s an offense that stays on the field and finishes drives.
The Bengals’ defense is where Jacksonville can do damage. Cincinnati gave up 27 points to Tampa Bay in Week 1, held Houston to 6 in Week 2, and then let Aaron Rodgers throw for 292 yards and three touchdowns in a 30-27 loss at Pittsburgh in Week 3. The Bengals are allowing a league-high 7.3 yards per play on first down. Against a Jaguars offense built around Jakobi Meyers, Parker Washington and a running back room led by Bhayshul Tuten, that first-down weakness sets up manageable second and third downs, which is exactly where Jacksonville has been winning.

The scoring margins tell the story of where the value sits. Both teams are 2-1, but Jacksonville has outscored its opponents by 15.3 points per game, while Cincinnati sits at +5.7. The market has the Bengals as short home favorites largely on name value and home field. Getting points with the team that has the better point differential, the better defense and the more efficient offense is the right side of this number.
Ja’Marr Chase is the biggest threat to that. He has 18 catches for 185 yards and three touchdowns through three games, and Burrow will look for him early and often. Burrow also threw for 282 yards and three scores in the loss at Pittsburgh, so this Cincinnati offense can score. But even with Chase producing at his usual level, the Bengals are facing the league’s top pass defense for the first time. Realistic Bengals output: 23-27 points. Realistic Jaguars output: 24-27 points.
The history is the one real concern. Cincinnati has covered four straight against Jacksonville, and Burrow is 3-0 ATS against the Jaguars. But those games came against Jacksonville teams without this defense. The 2026 Jaguars are a different team, and a trend built against earlier rosters doesn’t carry much weight against the best scoring defense in the league.
