Las Vegas Raiders at New Orleans Saints

New Orleans is a 3-point home favorite over Las Vegas with a total of 43.5. My play is the Raiders getting the points.
The specific setup here is what analysts have called a “classic letdown spot” for New Orleans. The Saints just went into Baltimore as 8.5-point underdogs and beat the Ravens 24-17 in one of the most impressive Week 2 wins in the NFL. That’s a program riding high on momentum, coming back home as favorites for the first time this season, and facing a Raiders team that many still don’t believe in. That’s exactly the profile where teams often overlook their opponent and produce sluggish, close games where the underdog covers.
Las Vegas is playing at a higher level than the market has been pricing in. They’re 2-0 straight up and 2-0 against the spread. They beat the Dolphins 27-13 as home favorites in Week 1 and then went on the road and upset the Chargers 26-14 in Week 2. Both games showed the Raiders playing physical, disciplined football with a functioning offense and a defense that’s been consistently getting stops. Klint Kubiak has this program playing at a much higher level than analysts expected in his first year.
The specific defensive matchup favors keeping this game close. The Raiders have been able to force opposing offenses into three-and-outs and generate takeaways. Against Tyler Shough — who has performed well in his two starts but hasn’t been tested by a top-tier defense in this current form — Las Vegas should be able to force at least one turnover and multiple stalled drives. That translates into short fields for the Raiders’ offense and reduced Saints scoring output.
Kirk Cousins is a specific fit for this game script. He completed just 1 of 7 attempts on passes of 10-plus air yards in Week 1, showing he isn’t going to try to win a shootout. But he’s an efficient game manager who protects the football and takes advantage of opportunities in the red zone. Against a Saints defense that’s still integrating pieces, Cousins should be able to hit 17-21 points through short, high-percentage throws and the Raiders’ effective run game.
The head-to-head prediction models support the play too. Dimers projects Saints 24, Raiders 20 — a 4-point margin. rg.org projects the same 24-20 score. Both fall right at the +3.5 line, meaning the game should be a push or a Raiders cover. The 3-point spread requires the Saints to win by 4+, which the current market’s own models don’t project.
Realistic outcomes: Saints 24, Raiders 20 (4-point margin, Raiders push +3); Saints 27, Raiders 21 (6-point margin, doesn’t cover); Raiders 21, Saints 20 (Raiders win outright); or Saints 20, Raiders 17 (3-point margin, push). Three of four scenarios cover or push for the Raiders. Given the letdown spot for New Orleans and the Raiders’ actual on-field performance, +3 offers legitimate value.
The Pick: Las Vegas Raiders +3
