The Lakers are laying 4.5 to 5.5 points at Intuit Dome with the total at 228.5, and my play is Over 228.5.
Five days ago these two played a 242-point game, and the Lakers have been in a track meet every night since. I’m not overthinking the side here. The total is where the value lives.
Luka is cooking, and nobody is stopping it. Luka Doncic hung 52 on Utah on Sunday and 41 more on Portland on Tuesday. Austin Reaves chipped in 26 against the Blazers, and the Lakers still lost 136-129 because they couldn’t get a stop.
That’s the Lakers in a nutshell right now. They score at the second-best rate in the league per TeamRankings and lead the NBA in three-point percentage. Their defense ranks 23rd.
Look at the totals in their four games: 232, 242, 255 and 265. Every one of them cleared 228.5.
The back-to-back is real, but the trip isn’t. Yes, the Lakers played Tuesday night. Luka logged 37 minutes and Reaves 39. But this “road trip” is a short drive across town, and the Lakers haven’t filed their injury report yet. Tired legs usually show up on the defensive end first. That’s a problem for the side and good news for the Over.

A whole new Clippers team. This franchise looks nothing like last year’s. Kawhi Leonard is in Toronto after the league’s cap-circumvention ruling, Steve Ballmer is serving a one-year suspension, and the Clippers are 1-2 in a season that feels like a reset. Darius Garland leads them at 24 points and seven assists a game, and Brook Lopez has given them a real interior presence.
The injury list is long. Bradley Beal, Brandon Ingram, Max Strus, Jordan Miller and Yanic Konan Niederhauser are all out, and Rui Hachimura (left quad soreness) is now out too. Tyronn Lue said Kobe Sanders will start in his place.
What happened last Friday. The Lakers won the first meeting 125-117 behind 28 points from Reaves and six blocks from Walker Kessler. Luka had a career-high 11 turnovers and the game still flew over. The Clippers were even sloppier, turning it over 26 times, and they have the worst turnover rate in the league so far. Giveaways against the Lakers mean run-outs, and run-outs mean fast, easy points.
The Clippers can shoot, too. They’re second in the NBA from three, which gives them a way to keep pace when Luka gets rolling.
Here’s the risk. The Clippers’ defense ranks seventh in efficiency, and they’re coming in on two days of rest against a team that just finished a game. Without Beal, Ingram, Strus and Hachimura, the Clippers could run out of scorers and stall in the half court. If the Lakers’ legs go dead and the threes start clanking, this could finish in the low 220s.
I’ll bet on Luka, the leaky Lakers defense and a Clippers team that keeps giving the ball away.
