Indiana Pacers at Miami Heat
Friday, October 30, 2026
8:00 PM ET, Kaseya Center
The Heat are 7.5-point favorites with a total of 236.5, and my play is the Pacers +7.5.
Four points. That’s how far this line has moved since it opened at Miami -3.5, and I get why. Tyrese Haliburton is down with a hamstring strain, Ivica Zubac is out with a sprained ankle, and Rick Carlisle won’t be on the bench either. The Pacers coach is attending his father’s funeral, so Lloyd Pierce runs the show as interim coach. That’s a lot of bad news for one road trip. But the market has spent all its energy on Indiana’s problems and skipped right past Miami’s.
The Heat haven’t stopped anybody. Miami traded for Giannis Antetokounmpo this summer and opened 0-4 for the first time since 2007-08. The defense is the reason. The Heat are allowing about 116 points per 100 possessions, 23rd in the league, and opponents are making shots like it’s a shootaround. Miami ranks 25th in effective field goal percentage allowed, a shooting number that gives extra weight to threes. Laying 7.5 points with a defense like that is asking a lot.
Home hasn’t been home yet. Miami is 0-3 at Kaseya Center, losing to Minnesota by 25, Detroit by 17 and Dallas by four. The only win came Wednesday in Atlanta, 129-117, and Erik Spoelstra kept his expectations in check afterward: “One game is not all that we’re looking for.” One good night on the road isn’t a reason to price this team like a contender.

Indiana already played this game once. We don’t have to guess what the Pacers look like without Haliburton and Zubac. They played Philadelphia on Wednesday without both and lost by five to a 76ers team that’s now 4-1, despite making just 9 of 36 threes. Andrew Nembhard ran the show with 18 points and 14 assists, and Pascal Siakam bullied his way to a double-double. Siakam is scoring 24 a night, Nembhard has run this team before during Haliburton’s lost 2025-26 season, and Indiana has won two of three on the road. A shorthanded team that competes is a very different bet than one that folds.
Where it could go sideways. Size is the real worry. Without Zubac, Indiana’s frontcourt is Jay Huff, Obi Toppin, Jarace Walker and Larry Nance Jr. against Antetokounmpo, who’s averaging 27.6 points and 11.2 rebounds, and Bam Adebayo, who just became the franchise’s all-time leading rebounder. If Miami pounds the paint all night, this gets away. Nembhard is also dealing with neck soreness, with the reports split between probable and questionable, and the Pacers are thin at guard with T.J. McConnell still out. There’s one more thing to keep in mind. Miami’s ugly numbers came against a tougher early schedule than Indiana’s, so the gap between these teams may be wider than the records suggest.
I’ll still take the points. Indiana has a real No. 1 option in Siakam, a capable point guard in Nembhard, and it gets to attack a defense that’s been leaking points all month. I’d play this down to +7 and pass at +6.5. If you find +8, grab it.
Projected score: Heat 118, Pacers 113
The Pick: Pacers +7.5
