Jacksonville Jaguars at Baltimore Ravens

The Jaguars are 9.5-point road favorites at most books with a total of 42.5, and my play is Jaguars -9.5.
If you glanced at the board and thought somebody fat-fingered this line, you’re not alone. Baltimore was about a field goal favorite in the lookahead market before Week 8. Then Sunday in Buffalo happened, and this number swung by more than 11 points in a matter of hours. It has kept climbing since, from Jaguars -8.5 to -9.5, and the total has slid from the high 40s to 42.5. The market isn’t being weird. It’s reacting to a quarterback room that looks like a M*A*S*H unit.
Why the Ravens are home dogs by more than a touchdown
Lamar Jackson came back from a three-game absence with an ankle sprain and lasted one snap. He jammed his right thumb on Greg Rousseau on Baltimore’s first play, and he’s headed to injured reserve and surgery. Asked if the season could be over, coach Jesse Minter said, “Potentially, but we’ll see where it’s at.”
It got worse from there. Backup Tyler Huntley left with a toe injury, and Minter has already said Huntley won’t play Thursday. Skylar Thompson is on IR. That leaves undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano, who finished the 36-10 loss in Buffalo by going 10-of-21 for 91 yards with an interception and three sacks, and he’s nursing an ankle of his own. “To Joe’s credit, he’s kind of fighting through a couple things he’s dealing with,” Minter said, “but expect him to have a chance to play on Thursday.” The only fully healthy quarterback in the building is Austin Reed, who was signed to the practice squad on Monday.
So the Ravens have a hobbled rookie or a practice-squad call-up, three days to prepare, and a kicker problem too: Tyler Loop’s groin has Jake Moody in line to kick.
Jacksonville’s defense smells blood
This is the worst possible week to draw the Jaguars. Their defense ranks fifth in EPA per play, which is the plain-English way of saying opponents lose ground on a typical snap against them. They just choked Indianapolis to 4.0 yards per play in a 42-7 rout, with two interceptions and a fumble recovery.
Now picture Fagnano, on a bad ankle and a short week, trying to sit in the pocket against that front. Baltimore’s plan will be to lean on Derrick Henry and shorten the game, and that’s the right idea. But Jacksonville’s defense owns a clear edge against designed runs in this matchup, and once the Jags get a two-score lead, the Ravens have to throw. Against Buffalo, Zay Flowers didn’t catch a single pass, and Rashod Bateman led the team with 22 receiving yards.

Trevor Lawrence is cooking
The other side of the ball isn’t much kinder to Baltimore. Lawrence has seven touchdown passes and 516 yards over his last two games, and the Jacksonville offense sits third in the league in EPA per play. Bhayshul Tuten went for 104 rushing yards and two total scores against the Colts.
The Ravens’ defense ranks 18th in EPA per play allowed. That’s middle of the road, and it isn’t built to stop a hot quarterback by itself. It also has to play with a short field all night if the offense keeps going three-and-out. In Buffalo, the Ravens had the ball for just 22:24 of game time.
Jacksonville has also been a reliable team to lay points with. The Jaguars are 10-4 against the spread as a favorite since the start of 2025. Baltimore is 0-3 ATS at home this year.
The case against laying 9.5
I’m not pretending this is free money. Nine and a half is a big number for a road team in a short week, and a backdoor cover is always possible when the favorite gets conservative late. The Ravens could also bring in a veteran quarterback before Thursday, since reports say they’ve been shopping for one, and anyone with real NFL snaps is an upgrade on a rookie playing hurt. Thursday-night games can get sloppy, and a couple of Jacksonville turnovers would tighten this fast. Some Jaguars are banged up too: DaVon Hamilton is out, and Travon Walker is questionable with a rib injury.
If the number reaches 10.5 or higher, I’d back off. At 9.5, the gap between these quarterback rooms is too wide to pass up.
Projected score: Jaguars 26, Ravens 12
The Pick: Jaguars -9.5
