Recent Form

After five games, the Atlanta Hawks sit 7th in the Eastern Conference Standings. As they travel to Philadelphia, they have a 1-2 record as the road team. So far, the team has taken advantage of their schedule, going 2-0 against teams below .500.

Atlanta last played on Thursday night, falling to the Washington Wizards (4-1), 111-122. In the game. John Collins led the team with 28 points and 12 rebounds. In his 38 minutes on the floor, Collins had a plus-minus rating of -9.

Cam Reddish came off the bench scoring 20 points in 26 minutes of action. Despite going just 1-5 on three-point attempts, Reddish was efficient with his shots inside the arc.

Top player Trae Young played 34 minutes but could only muster 15 points. Young shot just 20% beyond the arc.

The Philadelphia 76ers are tied with Hawks in the Eastern Conference standings at 3-2. So far, the Sixers have yet to beat a team with an above .500 record. Tonight’s game will be their third game at home, going 1-1 so far.

These two teams will be playing on equal rest, with Philadelphia also playing on Thursday night. In the contest, they defeated the Detroit Pistons (0-4) 110-102.

Philadelphia center Joel Embiid came away with a big game, scoring 30 points in 30 minutes. Even though Embiid shot just 42% from the field, he connected on 13/15 free throw attempts. The big man also hauled in 18 rebounds.

Forward Tobias Harris dropped 17 points on 7/13 shooting from the field. Tyrese Maxey added 16 points from the guard position as he made both of his three-point attempts.

Even though he didn’t log any points, Danny Green was the team leader in plus-minus rating at +19 in his 28 minutes.

Slower Moving Game Than Expected

Despite having a team filled with young and exciting offensive players. The Atlanta Hawks love to slow down the game. When they match up with teams similar to the 76ers, the Hawks win 61% of their games.

The Philadelphia 76ers play at a pace near the league average. When taking the court vs. slow-paced teams, the games usually finish with fewer possessions than expected. On average, they win these contests 60% of the time.

Two Efficient Offenses

Atlanta enters this game as one of the league’s most efficient teams at scoring the ball. I expect them to have a performance right in line with their usual output. When the Sixers face-off with top offensive teams, these opponents score at an average league rate. Philadelphia wins these games at a 43% rate.

The Sixers are among a group of teams scoring near the NBA average. I expect them to have a good night offensively in tonight’s game as Atlanta’s defense allows opponents to score 3 points per possession more than expected. The Hawks win these games 74% of the time with a scoring margin of 5 points.

The Historicals

Going back to last season, these two teams met up in three regular-season contests. Philadelphia took the season series 2-1. Both of the 76er’s wins convincingly came at home.

Even after dropping the first matchup 112-94, the cumulative score between all three games was 347-299 in favor of Philly.

Atlanta would eventually get its revenge in the NBA playoffs, knocking off the 76ers in the second round.

How the Public is Betting the Hawks vs. Sixers

54 % are betting the Sixers against the spread.
76% are wagering on the game to go under the posted total of 218.5.

Betting Trends Worth Noting

  • Five of the past six games in this matchup have under the total.
  • When the Hawks go on the road, 9 of their past 13 games have gone under the total.
  • Philadelphia’s last home games have gone under the total.

Joe’s Pick to Cover the Spread

The biggest advantage I see in this game is the 76ers offense vs. Atlanta’s defense. Joel Embiid should be able to get what he wants in the paint and is always a threat to step outside. I also expect Seth Curry to take advantage of his matchup with Trae Young.

The Sixers pride themselves on playing good defense. Even though most teams don’t completely stop the Hawks. In tonight’s game, they should be able to slow them down enough to pull out the win.

I recommend taking Philly to cover the spread at -3.

Prop Bets Worth Wagering

At the time of writing this article, there were no player props available. However, when they are posted, I will be targeting Joel Embiid as he should have a big night scoring. If Trae Young has a prop higher than 26 points, I recommend taking the Under. Be sure to check out today’s college football picks!
