The LSU Tigers suffered one of the most embarrassing home losses in recent history with last week’s 40-13 blowout loss to the Vols. To be fair, the loss did not necessarily show that LSU’s football team had suddenly declined but rather shed light on an emerging contender in the SEC in the form of Tennessee. This week first-year Head Coach Brian Kelly will be responsible for trying to get his team back on track and keep promising expectations in Death Valley when LSU takes a road trip to the Swamp as mere 3 points underdogs against the Florida Gators.

Last week, the Gators captured their first SEC win of the season in a 24-17 victory against Missouri. After dropping their first two SEC games of the season to Kentucky and Tennessee, Florida’s defense was able to cash in a big effort to help take care of business against the Tigers of Missouri. However, the Florida offense did not settle any concerns. QB Anthony Richardson’s struggles continued in a big way as the starter completed just 8 of 14 passing for 66 yards with a touchdown and a pick. Luckily, the Gators got enough help from tailbacks Montrell Johnson Jr and Trevor Etienne to help produce enough offense to squeak out the victory. Still, the Gators’ offensive concerns remain, especially in the passing game, and those concerns will be the center of focus in a needed-win situation this week against LSU.

LSU Tigers vs. Florida Gators Betting Analysis

When I break this game down from a match-up standpoint, I must admit that I am surprised that LSU is getting points. LSU appears to have the better talent, especially on the offensive side of the football with QB Jayden Daniels. Daniels has been solid for the Tigers, completing just shy of 70% of his passes with seven touchdowns and one pick. Daniels has accomplished those numbers with an underperforming offensive line that has provided minimal group support. Daniels currently leads the LSU offense with 359 rushing yards. However, the Tigers are expected to get an essential piece of their rushing power back this week as RB Armoni Goodwin is expected to return from a hamstring injury for the first time in 3 weeks.

Considering both defenses are pretty equal in terms of talent, I am keeping my focus on the pieces that produce the biggest impact in this game. While LSU appears to have some firepower at the skill positions, Florida’s offense has been a pure train wreck. I mentioned previously that Anthony Richardson has struggled significantly this season, with just five passing touchdowns and seven interceptions. Richardson’s has been highly inaccurate, and that has given defenses reason to confidently focus on defending the run. The Gators have some highly talented rushers in Trevor Etienne and Montrell Johnson Jr, and those guys will likely need to have big performances to carry Florida to a victory on Saturday.
