This Saturday, in Eugene, Oregon, the Wyoming Cowboys will come to town and take on the number two ranked Oregon Ducks. Oregon comes in as a huge home favorite at 43.5 points while the total points are set at 64.5. Naturally, anyone who follows college football knows that Oregon should and probably will win this game, but the 43.5 points are not going to be easy to cover. Oregon comes in at 2-0, and most recently, tallying a big win over top ten Michigan State. Wyoming also enters with a 2-0 record, but obviously their quality of wins are not as great as the Ducks. This game will be an early kickoff, and sometimes after coming off a huge win, and playing a lesser opponent early in the day, the favorite can be set up for a hug let down. Do you think Oregon will fall victim to this?

With a huge 46-27 win over the Michigan State Spartans, the Oregon Ducks have jumped Alabama in the polls and took over the ranking as the nation’s second best team (behind Florida State). Oregon comes into this contest as huge favorites…just like most games they play. At 43.5 point faves at home, the handicappers and public is not giving Wyoming any chance of winning the game, much less, keeping it close. With a 62-13 thrashing over South Dakota, and now the big win over Michigan State, Oregon appears primed to make a run at the very first college football playoff. In the coming weeks, the Ducks will take on UCLA and Stanford and of course, those two games are more than likely the ones they have circled on the schedule in order to get to and win the Pac-12 championship. Oregon enters this game with the 6th best scoring offense in the nation, as well as boasting a top 15 passing attack. Marcus Mariota leads the air assault for the Ducks having already passed for 585 yards, 6 touchdowns, and zero, I repeat zero interceptions. Mariota has not only made a name for himself as one of the nation’s best playmakers, but he has joined UGA running back, Todd Gurley, as the top two Heisman candidates so far this season. There is not really too much to breakdown from an Oregon standpoint. They are without a doubt the better team…no question. The key to winning this game is to show up. The key to covering the 43.5 point spread is to play focused. Do not take this win for granted, and come out and put Wyoming away early. If Oregon can keep their minds right, they could cover this spread…quite easily.

Wyoming is the underdogs…big time. They come in at 2-0, but their wins have come against Montana and Air Force. In both wins, Wyoming used their defense to get the victory. The Cowboys have the 20th best scoring defense in the nation, giving up just 12.5 points per game. Now, the defense has played well, but the offense has not looked good at all. Wyoming is ranked 115th in the nation in scoring offense and just barely crack the top 100 in both passing and rushing offense. If Wyoming stands ANY chance to make this game even somewhat competitive, they must score. They have got to move the ball, if not to score, at least control it enough to keep the Ducks offense off the field. Oregon can score quick and if the Wyoming defense gets winded early, the Ducks could have this spread covered by halftime.

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: These big point spreads are tricky. A single field goal, or a quarterback taking a knee while already up 40 can swing the result either way. At 43.5 points, one would think Oregon would have trouble covering that, but I think they could. If Wyoming goes scoreless, I can see Oregon winning this thing by 60. As of right now, 58% of the money is on Oregon and 42% riding on Wyoming. I like Oregon here. I think the lack of offense for Wyoming is going to be the death of them in this game. I like a lot of three and outs for the Oregon defense, and that will lead to many scoring chances early on. I see this being one of those games that is 28-0 headed to the 2nd quarter. Take Oregon -43.5. I predict a 56-0 final score. PICK THE OREGON DUCKS -43.5!!!
