Free Weekly Tournament Winner Picks

Picking the winner of a PGA golf tournament isn’t easy, not even for seasoned handicappers like Predictem.com’s Zman. With that being said, we like to pick a few golfers to win each week including what is usually one favorite, a mid range player and an longshot underdog with a legit shot of winning. We will win some and lose some. Keep in mind that golf betting is a serious grind and not a get rich quick scheme. It should also be noted not to pay attention to the “record” but the units. We won’t hit many of these but when we do the payoffs are huge. Hopefully by season’s end we’ll have a nice showing of profitable units! Enjoy!

Note: Weekly picks will likely be posted by Wednesday evening each week.

Longshot: Fred Couples 66-1 odds. (Winner was Vijay Singh)

Date: Thursday, August 14th
Tournament: 2008 Wyndam Championship
Our Picks:
Favorite: Vijay Singh at 10-1 odds. Hard not to pick Singh here as the clear best in the field. The putter will be key, but the birdie chances should be plentiful.
Middle Odds: Ken Duke 33-1 odds – A slew of top-15’s of late could turn into a win given the field this week.
Longshot: Steve Marino 50-1 odds Missed fairways have been trouble at times, but Sedgefield won’t punish like the PGA setup. (Lost all 3. Carl Pettersson won)

Date: Thursday, August 7th
Tournament: 2008 PGA Championship
Our Picks:
Favorite: Phil Mickelson 9-1 odds Mickelson has a good Major record in ’08 with three top-20’s including a T5 at the Masters and is the ’05 PGA Champ.
Middle Odds: Stuart Appleby 40-1 odds – 40 to 1 is longshot territory, but anyone watching last week saw a renewed fire in Appleby and a return to early ’08 form.
Longshot: Zach Johnson 66-1 odds A bit of a hunch pick here, but showed signs last week and the accuracy off the tee should lead to pars and keep him in it. (All 3 lost; Harrington wins the tournament)

Date: Thursday, July 31st
Tournament: 2008 WGC Bridgestone Invitational
Our Picks:
Favorite: Sergio Garcia 16-1 odds the British was disappointing but will probably be just a speedbump in an otherwise solid year.
Middle Odds: Kenny Perry 20-1 odds – No one can match the last 6 weeks, and the course fits the game.
Longshot: Rory Sabbatini 80-1 odds A bit of a hunch pick, but the Bridgestone has produced close calls in the past. (Lost all 3: Singh wins)

Date: Thursday, July 24th
Tournament: 2008 RBC Canadian Open
Our Picks:
Favorite: Anthony Kim at 10-1 Odds – Three in a row for Furyk is a tall task and Kim has proven he can finish with two wins this year.
Middle Odds: Stephen Ames – 16 Odds – Steady player that has been on the fringes of breaking through.
Longshot: Steve Marino 80-1 Odds – Solid in all phases and high birdie conversion will play well anywhere. (Update: 0-3, Reavie won)

Date: Thursday, July 17th
Tournament: 2008 British Open
Our Picks:
Favorite: Sergio Garcia at 8-1 Odds – The last three years (5,5,playoff
2nd) are too good to pass up here and no Tiger to stand in the way.
Middle Odds: Adam Scott 25-1 Odds – Great mix of length and accuracy and can make the putts, too.
Longshot: Stuart Appleby 50-1 Odds – Good value here for a solid player with a Major-capable game. Plays well in tough events, look for the top-10 form to return. (Update: Lost all 3. Harrington wins)

Date: Thursday, July 10th
Tournament: John Deere Classic
Our Picks:
Favorite: Kenny Perry 7-1 Odds – Kenny is on a Tiger-like run and is just too hot to not pick here. WINNER WINNER CHICKEND DINNER!
Middle Odds: Bubba Watson 28-1 Odds – The long game will put the scoring clubs in his hands and thats good when you need to go low.
Longshot: Nathan Green 40-1 Odds – Looking for the putter to carry him to a slew of birdies and onto the first page of the leaderboard.

Date: Thursday, June 26th
Tournament: Buick Open
Our Picks:
Favorite: Jim Furyk 10-1 – I can’t see picking any other here considering the track record.
Middle Odds: Heath Slocum 22-1 – Looking for the good play to continue and give Heath a chance on Sunday.
Longshot: Nathan Green 66-1 – The putts have been falling, a little better on the rest of the game will give Green a look. (All 3 lost, Perry was the winner).

Date: Thursday, June 19th
Tournament: Travelers Championship
Our Picks:
Favorite: Stewart Cink 14-1 – Overdue as can be and top-billing with Vijay make Cink the favorite.
Middle Odds: Carl Petterson 28-1 – Mahan is another good one here, but I like Petterson and his last two finishes (10,6).
Longshot: Woody Austin 50-1 – Woody is quietly one of the more solid players on Tour, especially on a short track. WINNER WINNER! CINK TAKES IT HOME AT 14-1 ODDS!

Date: Thursday, June 12th
Tournament: The 108th U.S. Open
Our Picks:
Favorite: Phil Mickelson 7 to 1 – Not much imagination here taking Lefty, but the Torrey Pines record is substantial and can’t help but contend if the driver is straight.
Middle Odds: Sergio Garcia 18 to 1 – If Garcia brings the game he had at the PLAYERS, he could shake the “best not to win a Major” title.
Longshot: Justin Leonard 40 to 1 – If the length doesn’t prove too much to overcome, look for Leonard to use the short game to contend.
Bonus Longshot: Scott Verplank 150 to 1 – The Open tends to give life to the type of Pro that knows the value of a par and can go under the radar a bit. (All 4 lost, Tiger Woods won the tournament).

Date: Thursday, June 5th
Tournament: Stanford St. Jude Championship
Our Picks:
Favorite: Vijay Singh 14-1: Singh has been close and is fine tuning
a swing change.

here.
Longshot: Brian Gay 33-1: Accuracy off the tee is key to success at Southwind.
Bonus Longshot: Fred Funk 100-1: The part-time Champions Tour member has six straight checks here including two top-10’s. 3rd in fairways hit on PGA this year.
