2015 Breeders Cup Race Pre-Entries Betting Preview

Triple Crown winner American Pharoah and Prix de lArc de Triomphe winner Golden Horn top 200 horses pre-entered for next weekend’s Breeders’ Cup Championships, which also features duel Breeders’ Cup winning mare Beholder and 32 European shippers.

There will be 13 Breeders’ Cup races this year, and the 32nd running of the event will be held at Keeneland Race Course in Lexington Kentucky for the first time. There will be four Breeders’ Cup races on Friday October 30 and nine Breeders’ Cup races on Saturday October 31, just before Halloween.

The Breeders’ Cup Championship races will be telecast live on NBCSN and NBC, with the Breeders Cup Classic expected to go at about 5:35 p.m. EST on Saturday on NBC.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic will be the main event of interest to both casual and hardcore race fans, with the first Triple Crown winner in 37 years, American Pharoah, taking on older horses for the first time, including two-time Breeders’ Cup winning mare Beholder. American Pharoah is the first horse in history to take a run at the newly coined “Grand Slam” of horse racing, which includes wins in all three Triple Crown races (Kentucky Derby, Preakness Stakes, Belmont Stakes) as well as victory in the Breeders’ Cup Classic.

The Breeders’ Cup Classic certainly won’t be a walk in the park for American Pharoah. He’ll have to earn it. Assumed main rival Beholder hasn’t lost this year in five starts, including a powerful victory over males in the Pacific Classic going 1 1/4-miles. Keen Ice, the horse that took advantage of a pace battle to defeat American Pharoah in the Travers Stakes, is back for more; Whitney winner Honor Code can be freakishly good on his best days for top trainer Shug McGaughey; and Gleneagles ships in from Europe with five Group 1 wins to his credit. And they’re just the headliners in the race.

Golden Horn brings extreme high class to the 2015 Breeders’ Cup Turf and he should be exciting to watch in what could turn out to be a case of can’t bet on him and can’t bet against him. On class he towers over this year’s Turf field based on numerous Group 1 wins including the Investec Derby in England and most recently the Prix de lArc de Triomphe in France, a race in which he literally ran away from double-Arc winner Treve, who was trying for her third win in a row in one of the world’s most prestigious races.

The first Breeders’ Cup races on Friday will be the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Turf (3:30 p.m.); followed by the $1 million Breeders Cup Dirt Mile (4:10 p.m.); the $1 million Breeders’ Cup Juvenile Fillies Turf (4:50 p.m.); and the $2 million Longines Breeders Cup Distaff (5:35 p.m.).

Saturday’s Keeneland card begins with two stakes followed by the $2 million 14 Hands Winery Juvenile Fillies (12:05 p.m.); $1 million Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint (12:45 p.m.); $1 million Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Sprint (1:25p.m.); $2 million Breeders Cup Filly & Mare Turf (2:10 p.m.); $1.5 million Breeders Cup Sprint (2:50 p.m.), $2 million Breeders Cup Mile (3:30 p.m.); $2 million Sentient Jet Breeders’ Cup Juvenile (4:10); $3 million Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf (4:50 p.m.) and the $5 million Breeders’ Cup Classic (5:35 p.m.).

Now for the good stuff, opportunities for making money.

Fridays card opens with a $500,000 guaranteed pool Pick 5 on Races 1-5, a $750,000 guaranteed Ultra Pick 6 pool on Races 5-10 and an a $1.5 million guaranteed pool Breeders Cup Pick 4 on Races 6-9. There will also be a Distaff-Classic Daily Double with a guaranteed pool of $500,000.

On Saturday there will be a $500,000 guaranteed Pick 5 on Races 1-5, an early Breeders Cup Pick 4 with a $1.5 million guarantee on Races 3-6 and a $2 million guaranteed Breeders Cup Ultra Pick 6 on races 6-11. Then we have a $3 million guaranteed Breeders Cup late Pick 4 on races 8-11, and a new Classic Pick 3 worth a minimum of $750,000 on the Juvenile, Turf and Classic in races 9-11. And more good news! The Pick 6 minimum has been lowered to $1.00! The minimum wager on Breeders’ Cup Trifectas, Pick 3s, Pick 4s and Pick 5s remains at 50 cents.

Combine the lucrative pools above with Exactas, rolling Pick 3s and Doubles throughout both Breeders’ Cup Championship days and you once again have the best opportunity of the year to make a massive score with even small outlay of cash.

We’re doing our homework now and watching the replays of contenders. Our focus will be on Breeders’ Cup Saturday, but we’ll have picks for you for both days, including some juicy longshots. Breeders’ Cup pre-entries follow below. See you at the windows next weekend.
