The Dodgers own the best record in baseball, while the Diamondbacks are sliding toward the other end of the spectrum, heading into the middle game of this three-game NL West series at Chavez Ravine Wednesday night. How are we playing this game with today’s MLB pick?
MLB Betting Odds
Wednesday’s MLB betting odds opened Los Angeles and Buehler at around -175 over Arizona and Gallen, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. The Dodgers could also be found getting around +105 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.
Diamondbacks vs. Dodgers Set-Up
Los Angeles took the opener of this series Tuesday night 6-3. The Dodgers cashed as -200 favorites on the MLB betting odds and covered against the run line at a price of -110.
Tuesday’s game also played over its total closing line of 8.5 runs when Arizona’s Nick Ahmed hit an otherwise meaningless two-run homer with two outs in the top of the ninth inning off LA reliever Scott Alexander.
With Tuesday’s win, the Dodgers are 9-2 over their last 11 games. At 27-10 overall, Los Angeles leads the NL West by five games over second-place San Diego, and it’s five games up on the Padres, Cubs, and Braves in the battle for the best record in the National League.
With Tuesday’s loss, the Diamondbacks are 1-11 over their last 12 games. At 14-22 overall, Arizona trails San Francisco by 3.5 games in the scrum for the eighth and final National League playoff spot.
The Dodgers lead the season series with the D’Backs four games to one.
Wednesday’s Starting Arms
Buehler is making his first start in almost two weeks, after doing a short stint on the IL with a blister on a finger. He’s just 1/5 on quality starts on the season, although that one came last time out, when he held Colorado to one run through six innings, with 11 strikeouts against zero walks, in a 5-1 Los Angeles victory. But in his four starts prior to that, Buehler allowed 12 runs – 11 earned – on 13 hits and nine walks through 19 innings.
The Dodgers are 4-1 with Buehler this year, with the totals splitting 2-2-1.
Over four starts against Arizona last year, Buehler gave up nine runs and 20 hits through 24 innings, with 28 K’s. Los Angeles won three of those four games.
Gallen is a solid 6/7 on quality starts this year, running on a string of six in a row. Last Friday, he limited San Francisco to one run and five hits through seven innings of a 7-4 Diamondbacks win. And over his last three starts, he’s allowed just three runs and 11 hits through 20 innings.
Arizona is 5-2 with Gallen this year, with the unders going 5-2.
Over three career starts against the Dodgers, two last year and one earlier this season, Gallen allowed six ER and 13 hits through 16 1/3 innings, with six walks and 20 whiffs. The Diamondbacks won two of those three games.
Wednesday’s Batting Splits
Arizona is batting .235 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .309 team OBP and a .372 team slugging percentage. The Diamondbacks also just traded OF Starling Marte, who was hitting .311.Los Angeles is batting .251/.336/.469 vs. RH pitching this season. But 3B Justin Turner (hamstring) is out, and OF Cody Bellinger (back) is questionable for Wednesday.
The Diamondbacks bullpen owns a 5.18 ERA this season and a 1.54 WHIP. Numbers like those help this unit rank among the bottom half-dozen bullpens in Baseball at the moment. The Dodgers pen owns a 2.11 ERA and an ML-best 0.99 WHIP. Numbers like those help this unit rank among the top two bullpens in Baseball.

Free MLB Pick
LA is hot, Arizona is not (in the baseball sense), and usually, that’s good enough for us. However, Gallen is going great as of late, and the Dodgers might be without a couple of their key sticks. Most signs point toward Los Angeles for this game, but betting baseball is all about betting value, and the value here resides with the underdog Diamondbacks.
