Listed Pitchers: Chad Bettis (Col) vs. Julio Urias (LA)

TV: ESPN

Moneyline: Dodgers -145/Rockies +135 (GTBets)
Over/Under: 11

The Los Angeles Dodgers are 7-0 their last seven times out against the Colorado Rockies, including that one-game playoff for the NL West division title last season and the first two meetings this season. Sunday LA shoots for the sweep of this three-game series in Denver. Which way are we going with our free MLB pick on this contest?

MLB Betting Odds

Sunday’s MLB betting odds opened Los Angeles and Urias at around -140 over Colorado and Bettis, with an over/under of 11 runs. Early betting action then bumped that line about a nickel, to around -145.

The Dodgers could also be found getting around +105 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.

Dodgers vs. Rockies Set-Up

LA grabbed the opener of this series Friday night 10-6, then took Game 2 Saturday 7-2. The Dodgers rapped out 13 hits Friday, then 11 more on Saturday.

Los Angeles won as a -130 favorite Friday, then at -115 Saturday.

Also, Friday’s game played over a total of 10.5 runs, while Saturday’s game played under a total of 10.

So the Dodgers have won four games in a row and six of their last seven, while the Rockies are just 1-6 over their last seven.

Colorado has been held to three runs or less in six of its last seven games.

Last year Los Angeles took the season series from the Rockies 13 games to seven.

Sunday’s Starting Arms

Bettis (0-1, 9.53) is 0/1 on quality starts this season. He opened last Monday at Tampa Bay, giving up six runs and seven hits, including two home runs, through 5 2/3 innings of a 7-1 Colorado defeat. Bettis needed 91 pitches to get those 17 outs.

Last year, by our tough standards, Bettis finished 7/20 on quality starts. The Rockies went 11-9 with Bettis, with the overs going 10-7-3.

In six appearances last year against Los Angeles, four starts and two relief stints, Bettis allowed 12 runs and 19 hits through 22 2/3 innings. Colorado went 1-3 in those four starts, with the overs going 2-1-1.

Lefty Urias (0-0, 0.00) made his first start since 2017 a good one last Monday, holding San Francisco scoreless on three hits through five innings of a game the Dodgers eventually lost 4-2 . He needed 77 pitches to get those 15 outs.

Last year, coming back from shoulder surgery, Urias pitched just four innings at the Big League level. But he re-earned a spot on the Dodgers staff this spring by posting a 1.72 ERA and a 0.51 WHIP during Spring Training play.

This will be Urias’ first start against Colorado since 2017, when he gave up six runs in four innings of a 9-6 Dodgers loss.

Sunday’s Batting Splits

Los Angeles is batting a hefty .317/.405/.630 against right-handed pitching this season.

The Rockies are batting a meager .169/.246/.254 against left-handed pitching this season.

The Bullpens

The Dodgers bullpen has allowed 23 ER on 40 hits and 12 walks through 35 2/3 innings of work this season. It’s also allowed six runs on eight hits through eight innings of work in this series.

The Colorado pen has allowed 11 ER on 26 hits and 14 walks through 27 innings this season. It’s also allowed six runs on seven hits through eight innings in this series.

Totals Report

  • The overs are 7-2 in Dodgers games this season.
  • The unders are 5-3-1 in Rockies games this season.
  • The unders played 11-7-2 in Dodgers-Rockies games last season.
  • The unders played 46-33-2 in games played at Coors Field last season, even though Rockies home games averaged 10.5 total runs per, second-most in the Majors.

Obviously Colorado plays against some inflated totals at home.

Free MLB Pick

Los Angeles is the hotter team, and gets the check-marks in the pitching match-up and with the sticks. So we’re betting the Dodgers Sunday night. And we like taking road favorites against the run line because we know they’ll bat nine times. So we’ll chase the better price and give the run and a half.

Take the Dodgers -1.5 runs
