After upsetting the Dodgers in the opener of this three-game interleague series, and at a nice fat price, the Rangers shoot for the series victory Saturday evening in Arlington. Can Texas win again as a home dog? Or will LA bounce back? And who do we like for our free MLB pick?

MLB Betting Odds

Saturday’s MLB betting odds opened Los Angeles and Stripling at around -160 over Texas and Lynn, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. The Dodgers could also be found getting around +105, giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.

Dodgers vs. Rangers Set-Up

Texas took the opener of this series Friday night 6-2. That game was tied at 2-2 when the Rangers scored four runs in the bottom of the seventh inning off the usually reliable Los Angeles bullpen and hung on from there.

Texas won Friday as a +200 home dog on the MLB betting odds, and the game played under a total of nine runs.

Even with Friday’s win, Texas is just 2-10 over its last 12 games. At 12-19 overall, the Rangers trail Toronto by 4.5 games in the battle for the eighth and final American League playoff spot.

Even with Friday’s loss, Los Angeles is 13-3 over its last 16 games. At 24-10 overall, the Dodgers lead San Diego by four games in both the NL West race and in the battle for the best record in the National League.

These teams last met two seasons ago, when LA swept four games from Texas.

Saturday’s Starting Arms

Lynn is a sparkling 6/7 on quality starts this season, yet to allow more than two runs in an outing. Last Monday, he held the A’s to two runs and five hits through six innings of a 3-2 Texas victory. And over his last three starts, he’s allowed six runs – five earned – and 15 hits through 22 innings, with two walks and 20 strikeouts.

The Rangers are 5-2 with Lynn this year, with the unders going 4-3.

This will be Lynn’s first start against the Dodgers since 2017, when as a Cardinal, he held them to one run through eight innings, although St. Louis lost that game 2-1.

Stripling is just 1/6 on quality starts this year. Last Sunday, he gave up two runs and six hits through four innings of an 11-3 LA win over Colorado. But just before that, he got knocked around for seven runs – six earned – and eight hits through only three innings against Seattle.

Nonetheless, the Dodgers are 5-1 with Stripling this year, with the overs going 4-2.

This will be Stripling’s first-ever start against Texas, which could give him an edge, at least for the first couple of times through the lineup.

Nationals vs. Red Sox

Saturday’s Batting Splits

Los Angeles is batting .262 against right-handed pitching this season, with a .338 team OBP and an ML-best .517 team slugging percentage. The Dodgers have also scored at least five runs five times over their last seven games.

Texas is batting a meager .200/.252/.309 vs. RH pitching this season. The Rangers have also been held to three runs or less five times over their last six games.

The Bullpens

The Dodgers bullpen owns a 2.13 ERA this season and an ML-best 1.00 WHIP. Numbers like that help this unit rank among the top two bullpens in Baseball at the moment.

The Rangers pen owns a 4.90 ERA and a 1.40 WHIP.

Free MLB Pick

We gotta give Lynn the check-mark in the pitching match-up, but Los Angeles owns big edges with the bats and in the bullpen comparison.
