Moneyline: Mets -185/Giants +165

Over/Under: 7.5

The Giants are suddenly one of the hottest teams in Baseball, using a 13-2 run to get within one game of the .500 mark. They also rallied to take the opener of this four-game series with the Mets out by the Bay Thursday night. Who do we like for our free MLB pick on Friday’s game?

MLB Betting Odds

Friday’s MLB betting odds opened New York and deGrom at around -180 over San Francisco and Beede, with an over/under of 7.5 runs. Early betting action then bumped that line up to -185.

The Mets could also be found at around -115 giving the run and a half on the MLB run line.

Mets vs. Giants Set-Up

San Francisco stole the opener of this series Thursday night 3-2, rallying for two runs in the bottom of the 16th inning for the victory.

The Giants cashed as -130 favorites on Thursday’s MLB betting line, and the game played under a total of seven runs.

Thursday’s loss snapped a four-game winning streak for New York. At 44-52 overall the Mets trail division-leading Atlanta by 13 games in the NL East, and they’re six games back of Milwaukee in the battle for that second National League wild-card spot.

With Thursday’s triumph, San Francisco now owns a six-game winning streak, part of a current 13-2 run. At 48-49 overall the Giants trail the division-leading Dodgers by 15 games in the NL West but they’re also only 2.5 games behind the Brewers in that NL wild-card battle.

These two teams have now split four meetings this season.

Friday’s Starting Arms

Beede is 4/9 on quality starts this season and two outs away from a run of three in a row. Last Sunday he held Milwaukee to three runs through 6 2/3 innings of an 8-3 San Francisco victory, and over his previous three starts he’s allowed six runs and 15 hits through 19 innings.

The Giants are 7-2 when Beede starts this season, 5-1 over his last six starts.

In his only career start against New York, six weeks ago at Citi Field, Beede got nicked for six runs – five earned – and five hits, including two home runs, through five frames of a 7-0 San Francisco loss.

deGrom is 12/19 on quality starts this year and six for his last eight. Last Sunday he limited Miami to one run through five innings of a 5-0 Mets win, and over his previous three starts, he’s allowed six runs and 15 hits through 18 innings, with 23 strikeouts.

New York is only 6-13 with deGrom this season and 1-3 over his last four starts, but that’s not his fault.

In his most recent start against San Francisco, in August of last season, deGrom allowed just two runs – one earned – and four hits through six innings, with ten whiffs, although the Mets lost that game 3-1.

Friday’s Batting Splits

New York is batting .249/.321/.423 against right-handed pitching this season.

San Francisco is batting .239/.305/.410 against RH pitching this season.

The Bullpens

The Mets bullpen owns a 5.30 ERA this season and a 1.53 WHIP while allowing a .827 OPS. Numbers like those “help” this unit rank among the worst three bullpens in Baseball.

The Giants pen owns a 3.86 ERA and a 1.24 WHIP while allowing a .692 OPS. Numbers like those help this unit rank among the top five bullpens in Baseball.

Totals Report

  • Overs are 50-36 in Mets games this season.
  • Overs are 51-41 in Giants games this season.
  • Overs are 23-20 in games played at Oracle Park this season.
  • Overs are a combined 17-10 when Beede and deGrom start this season.

Free MLB Pick

New York owns the edge in the pitching match-up, but San Francisco holds a significant advantage in the bullpen comparison. Plus, the Giants are itching at the chance to reach the .500 mark. We like San Francisco at the very attractive home-dog price.

Take the Giants +165
