After taking the first two games of this four-game series the White Sox hope to inflict further damage on the Yankees Saturday night on the South Side. Which way are we going here with our free MLB play? Note: More daily baseball predictions are available in our Free Picks Section.

MLB Betting Odds

As of this writing Saturday’s MLB betting odds were holding off on posting a line and total on this game, as New York opted to go with an “opener” for its starting pitcher. So the Yankees bullpen will play a big part Saturday night.

The last time Green started as an opener, last Sunday against Cleveland, New York went off as a +120 underdog on the MLB betting line, then won the game 7-6.

Yankees vs. White Sox Set-Up

Chicago won the opener of this series Thursday night 5-4, cashing in as a +160 home dog on the MLB betting odds. The White Sox then took Friday night’s game 10-2 in a game that went off as a pick ’em. Chicago spotted New York a run in the top of the first inning Friday, then scored four runs in the bottom of the first and cruised from there.

Also, Thursday’s game stayed under a total of 9.5 runs, but Friday’s game played over a total of 8.5.

With Friday’s defeat the Yankees now own a three-game losing streak. And they’re just 3-8 over their last 11 games. At 41-27 overall New York now trails division-leading Tampa Bay by a half-game in the AL East.

With Friday’s win Chicago is now 5-1 over its last six games. At 34-34 overall the White Sox trail division-leading Minnesota by 12 games in the AL Central but they’re also only 2.5 games behind Texas in the battle for the second American League wild-card spot.

Chicago now leads the season series with the Yankees four games to one.

Saturday’s Starting Arms

Lopez, by our strict standards, is 6/14 on quality starts this season, but only one for his last four. Last Sunday he held Kansas City to one run and four hits through six innings of a 5-2 ChiSox victory. But over his three starts previous to that he coughed up 19 runs and 24 hits, including six homers, through just 13 1/3 innings.

The White Sox are 6-8 with Lopez this season, 2-3 over his last five starts.

In two career starts against the Yanks, both last season, Lopez allowed just two runs and nine hits through 14 innings. Chicago split those two games.

Green is starting as an opener for the fifth time this season, to go along with 17 appearances in relief. Last Sunday he started and tossed two innings of shutout ball against the Indians. And over his last six appearances, four in relief, he’s allowed just one run and seven hits through 7 1/3 innings, with 11 strikeouts against just one walk.

The “opener” thing seems to work for Green and New York, which is 4-0 with him in that role this season.

In five appearances against the White Sox over the last season-plus Green allowed three runs and five hits through 3 2/3 innings.

Saturday’s Batting Splits

New York is batting .262/.340/.467 against right-handed pitching this season. But this lineup has only produced a total of 10 runs over its last three games.

Chicago is batting .250/.309/.405 against RH pitching this season. This lineup has also produced 22 runs over its last three games.

After giving up four runs in 3 1/3 innings Friday night the Yankees bullpen now owns a 3.97 ERA this season and a 1.27 WHIP.

After giving up one unearned run through three innings Friday night the White Sox bullpen now owns a 4.17 ERA and a 1.37 WHIP.

Totals Report

  • Overs are 36-29 in Yankees games this season.
  • Unders are 35-32 in White Sox games this season.
  • Totals are split 17-17 in games played at the place they now call Guaranteed Rate Field this season.
  • Unders are 8-6 with Lopez this season.
  • Unders are 3-2 in Yankees-White Sox games this season.

Free MLB Pick

Green and the New York bullpen own the edge in the pitching match-up, and Yankees bats are due to pop off for 7-8 runs. We’re taking New York for our free MLB pick for Saturday.
