Celtics vs Rockets Prediction, Odds & Best Bet – Nov 2

Boston Celtics at Houston Rockets
Monday, November 2, 2026
8:30 PM ET, Toyota Center

The Rockets are 4.5-point favorites with a total of 219.5. My play is the Over 219.5 (-110).

Forget the spread for a second. Look at who is on the floor: the NBA’s most efficient offense against the sixth-most efficient one, and the market has hung a total nearly ten points below what both teams’ games have averaged. Boston scores 120.8 points a game and allows 109.2. Houston scores 120.7 and allows 108.3. Do that math and tell me why 219.5 feels like a ceiling.

Houston is scoring like it has a cheat code

The Rockets are 6-1, 3-0 at home, and they just hung 119 on Oklahoma City in a 21-point rout on Saturday. Per TeamRankings, Houston leads the league at 1.178 points per possession, and it’s been even better at home. Alperen Sengun runs the whole thing from the elbows, averaging 22.8 points, 9.0 rebounds and 7.4 assists, and the Rockets have so many finishers around him that somebody different gets hot every night. Against OKC it was Jabari Smith Jr. with 30.

The one thing keeping totals honest in Houston is pace. The Rockets play slow, 23rd in possessions per game. But slow doesn’t mean low-scoring when every trip ends in a good shot, and four of Houston’s last five games have cleared 219.5 anyway.

Boston’s tired legs help the Over, not the Under

The Celtics have won five straight and Jayson Tatum is playing like an MVP candidate at 27.6 points and 7.8 assists a night. He dropped 32 in Sunday’s 108-97 win in Orlando. The catch is that all five wins in this streak came against teams with losing records, and this is the second night of a back-to-back against a rested Houston team that had Sunday off.

Here’s why that pushes me toward points. Fatigue on the second night shows up on defense first: slower rotations, late closeouts, fewer deflections. Boston’s offense travels, with Tatum, Paul George and Derrick White all able to create, and the Celtics are sixth in offensive efficiency. Their defense, which has been very good at home, has leaked more on the road this season. Walking into the league’s best offense on short rest is not where that gets fixed.

The market is already leaning my way

This total opened at 218.5 and ticked up to 219.5, while the spread came down from Houston -5.5 to -4.5. That tells me the number is moving toward a competitive, up-and-down game rather than a Houston clampdown. When I run the two teams’ efficiency numbers against each other at a pace around 102 possessions, I land in the high 220s.

Why I could be wrong

Houston’s slow tempo is real, and if the Rockets turn this into a half-court grind with long Sengun post-ups, possessions dry up. Boston could also come out flat after a Sunday afternoon game and simply fail to keep up its end, which would leave Houston carrying the total alone. Watch the injury report too. Fred VanVleet sat Saturday’s game for right knee management, Clint Capela (ankle) and Reed Sheppard (back) are day-to-day, and Steven Adams (calf) is out. For Boston, Mitchell Robinson (rest) and Devin Carter (illness) are out. Fewer bigs on both sides leans toward more scoring, but a surprise absence of a key ball handler could slow things down.

Projected score: Rockets 117, Celtics 110
