Heat at Lakers Prediction: Expert Pick for Nov 2, 2026

by | Last updated Nov 2, 2026 | NBA Picks

Miami Heat at Los Angeles Lakers
Monday, November 2, 2026
10:00 PM ET, Crypto.com Arena

The Lakers are 2.5-point favorites over the Heat, and the total is 237.5. My play is Over 237.5 (-110).

Nobody in this building is going to get a stop. Luka Doncic is averaging 37.7 points, the most in the league, and just put up 45, 15 rebounds and eight threes on Toronto. Giannis Antetokounmpo is averaging 28.2 points and 12.3 rebounds on 58.6% shooting through six games. Neither defense standing in front of them has shown it can stop much of anything.

Two offenses that can score, two defenses that can’t stop it

Start with the Lakers’ shooting. L.A. leads the NBA in effective field goal percentage, the stat that gives threes their extra credit, at a ridiculous .600. Austin Reaves adds 23.1 points a night, and Walker Kessler is shooting 75% from the field. Now look at what Miami brings on defense: the Heat rank 24th in defensive rating, and only three teams let opponents shoot better.

Then flip it. Miami plays at the third-fastest pace in the league, and it just got rolling. After an 0-4 start, the Heat won at Atlanta 129-117 and then hammered Indiana 145-125. Giannis posted 31 points, 18 rebounds and 10 assists in 31 minutes of that rout, Bam Adebayo scored 27 and Klay Thompson hit seven threes for 25. The Lakers’ defense ranks 20th, and their 16.7% turnover rate is second-worst in the league. Live-ball giveaways turn into run-outs, and Miami is happy to run.

The back-to-back bill comes due on defense

The schedule tips this toward points. Miami last played Friday and gets two full days off before opening a five-game West Coast trip. The Lakers are on the second night of a back-to-back, and Sunday’s game didn’t end quietly. L.A. led by 26, the Raptors’ bench cut it to five in the final minutes, and JJ Redick had to send Doncic, Reaves and Kessler back in to close it out. Doncic played 35 minutes, Reaves played 39, and the Lakers turned it over 24 times. Tired legs on a back-to-back usually show up on defense first, with late closeouts and lost shooters in transition. The offense doesn’t fall off nearly as much, especially when Doncic is running it.

Adebayo’s plan for Luka sounds great in theory: “making him see double and think a little bit. Just try to make guys miss.” But sending two defenders at Doncic leaves shooters open, and the Lakers are making about 37% of their threes. Miami’s defense isn’t built to win that trade right now.

Why I could be wrong: Miami takes care of the ball, with the fifth-lowest turnover rate, and if the Heat slow down and grind half-court possessions, the pace could stall. The Lakers are 4-3 to the Over and Miami is 3-3, so this isn’t a lock to fly over. A tired Lakers team could also go flat on offense, just as it did after building a 25-point lead at Golden State on Friday. Tim Hardaway Jr. is questionable for personal reasons, and the Lakers hadn’t filed their injury report as of Monday morning, so check for late scratches.

Projected score: Lakers 123, Heat 119

I’d play the Over up to 239.5.
