Brooklyn Nets at Atlanta Hawks
Saturday, November 7, 2026
7:30 PM ET, State Farm Arena
The Hawks are 6.5-point favorites over the Nets at most books, with the total sitting at 226.5. My play is Nets +6.5.
Atlanta just dropped 139 on Washington in a Friday night track meet. Now it has to do it again, on short rest, without the guy who ties the whole roster together.
Johnson’s out, and the number didn’t flinch
Jalen Johnson is sidelined with an ankle injury after missing Friday. He’s been Atlanta’s connector — about 18 a night with 9 boards and nearly 8 assists. Without him, Nickeil Alexander-Walker scored 28 and Luguentz Dort added 25 in that Wizards win, with Onyeka Okongwu stuffing the box score at 22 and 10. Fine. That is not the same team laying a touchdown at home.
The Hawks are 6-4 and riding a three-game streak, but the home split is 2-2 and they’re just 1-3 against the number in State Farm Arena. The market still has them at −6.5. That feels like last week’s roster.

Brooklyn is 2-6 and owns one of the uglier net ratings in the league, roughly −6 per 100 possessions. Michael Porter Jr. and Julius Randle are putting up star usage (both around 21 a night), and Wednesday’s 114-104 win over Charlotte was the cleanest 48 minutes they’ve played. Egor Demin is still out with a leg bruise, but the Nets have covered every road spread so far — 4-0 ATS away. Bad teams that cover as dogs are the ones that beat numbers like this.
Atlanta plays fast (top-10 pace), and the total has already drifted up from 224.5 after Friday’s fireworks. That’s a separate conversation. For the side, a rested dog that just found an offensive identity is a better bet than a short-rest favorite missing its best forward.
Why I could be wrong. The Nets still rank near the bottom in offensive efficiency, and Atlanta’s supporting cast is deep enough to win by 12 if Alexander-Walker stays hot and Okongwu owns the glass. If Johnson is a late scratch-in and plays, the edge shrinks fast. And when a 2-6 team has covered four straight on the road, some of that is variance waiting to snap back.
I’ll take the points anyway. The Hawks earned the streak. They haven’t earned this number on night two without Johnson.
Projected score: Hawks 114, Nets 110
The Pick: Nets +6.5
