RACE 3 – Big Ass Fans Breeders’ Cup Dirt Mile

  • 3. Cody’s Wish
  • 4. Zozos
  • 9. National Treasure

NOTES: General thinking is that ZOZOS could steal this race, but the fact that NATIONAL TREASURE won the Preakness Stakes in wire-to-wire fashion make us think they might send him to the lead, which in theory would result in a contested pace and set the race up for CODY’S WISH. If either ZOZOS or NATIONAL TREASURE gets loose and slows down the pace, they could go all the way.

RACE 4 – Maker’s Mark Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Turf

  • 2. Warm Heart
  • 6. Inspiral
  • 1. In Italian

Longshots: 5. Win Marilyn 12. Lumiere Rock
NOTES: WARM HEART and INSPIRATIONAL are tough to separate as the class of the field. IN ITALIAN will try to steal the race on the front end and has a chance to do that if she can clear and set a slow pace. LUMIERE ROCK was only beaten 2 1/2-lengths by WARM HEART in June, and that race would make her an exactor contender here at long odds. WIN MARILYN is off form, but her best races make her worth including in the exotic wagers.

RACE 5 – PNC Bank Breeders’ Cup Filly & Mare Sprint

  • 5. Kirstenbosch
  • 1. Goodnight Olive
  • 9. Yuugiri

NOTES: GOODNIGHT OLIVE could get trapped along the inside and probably needs a contested pace to run at, which she might not get. KIRSTENBOSCH is in the same boat, and she tends to get left in the gate, but if she can get a good pace to run into, she can finish like a freight train. SOCIETY will try to steal it and has a remote chance of doing that if she can clear to the lead by herself and set a slow pace. YUUGIRL may not be classy enough to beat these, but she definitely has some heart, and that makes her worth an extra look in your exotic wagers.

RACE 6 – FanDuel Breeders’ Cup Mile Presented by PDJF

  • 10. Songline
  • 14. Master of The Seas
  • 6. Mawj

Longshots: 1. Shirl’s Speight 2. Gina Romantica 3. Casa Creed, 8. Du Jour 11. Kelina
NOTES: SONGLINE is a very good horse, but she will have to run down another very good horse in MAWJ, who could set all the pace and hold on late. MASTER OF THE SEAS just missed in his last to Breeders’ Cup turf entrant Up The Mark, and he was finishing well late. He has enough class to be in the win photo with his best race for top connections.

RACE 7 – Longines Breeders’ Cup Distaff

  • 9. Clairiere
  • 4. Idiomatic
  • 11. Le Da Vida

Longshots: 3. Pretty Mischievous 6. Search Results
NOTES: CLAIRIERE is the classiest closer in the field, but she just never seems to get there when we play her. Still, if IDIOMATIC finds herself in a pace battle, this race sets up for CLAIRIERE. If IDIOMATIC gets a smart ride and avoids a pace battle, she is the horse to beat. This race is a bit of a crapshoot with no solid pick to win in a murky pace scenario.

RACE 8 – Longines Breeders’ Cup Turf

  • 9. Mostahdaf
  • 5. Auguste Rodin
  • 11. King of Steel
  • 8. Up to the Mark

Longshots: 1. Shahryar 2. Onesto 4. Bolshoi Ballet
NOTES: The top three in this field are the classiest horses in this year’s Breeders’ Cup, and any one of them could win. MOSTAHDAF is tough as nails, but dual English and Irish Derby winner AUGUSTE RODIN will give him all he can handle if he runs his “A” race. The problem is, sometimes, he decides not to run at all. KING OF STEEL has lost to both the top two in the past, but star European jockey Frankie Dettori rode him for the first time in his last race and won. Dettori is back aboard today, and this horse could post an upset if he gets a better trip than the top two. UP TO THE MARK “might” be one of the few North American horses that can kick it in like the good Europeans he faces here. We’ll find out for sure today. SHAHRYAR finished a good second in the high-class Japan Cup last November, and he has apparently had a throat problem fixed. ONESTO finished a solid third in the Prix de l’Arc de Triomphe, one of the toughest races on the planet, in his most recent start. Best race of all the Breeders’ Cup races this weekend.

RACE 9 – Longines Breeders’ Cup Classic

  • 8. Ushba Tesoro
  • 3. White Abarrio
  • 12. Arabian Knight

Longshots: 2. Zandon 5. Derma Sotogake
NOTES: Japanese runner USHBA TESORO has won six in a row and came from last to first to win the Dubai World Cup against a field that was arguably better than this. He might be classier than these, but it’s difficult to tell. WHITE ABARRIO had a trainer change to Rick Dutrow before his last race and looked like a completely different and dramatically improved horse. If he repeats his last race, he has a chance to win. ARABIAN KNIGHT will try to steal the race on the front end, but it’s more likely he will get pressure from SAUDI CROWN. If either gets loose and sets a slow pace, they have a chance. ZANDON can rally late at long odds. Japanese runner DERMA SOTOGAKE might be good enough to make it close, but he hasn’t run since his troubled sixth-place finish in the Kentucky Derby. It’s a guessing game with him.

RACE 10 – Breeders’ Cup Turf Sprint

  • 7. Nobals
  • 10. Motorious
  • 5. Live In The Dream
  • 9. Roses for Debra

Longshots: 1. Big Invasion 8. Aesop’s Fables 9. Jasper Krone 12. Arzak
NOTES: MOTORIOUS is best on numbers, but he’ll have to catch NOBALS, who will force the pace outside likely leader LIVE IN THE DREAM, who shortens up a half furlong for this after setting a super fast pace in her last. Could LIVE IN THE DREAM steal it on the cutback? Maybe. BIG INVASION might be good enough with a perfect trip up the rail. AESOP’S FABLES is a rider/trainer play with Ryan Moore and Aidan O’Brien in his corner. Japanese runner JASPER KRONE is quick from the gate, but we’re not sure about his class. ARZAK can finish strong with the right pace setup.

RACE 11 – Qatar Racing Breeders’ Cup Sprint

  • 6. The Chosen Vron
  • 8. Elite Power
  • 2. Dr. Schivel
  • 7. Speed Boat Beach

Longshot: 4. Hoist the Gold
NOTES: Taking a shot with THE CHOSEN VRON, who is 6-for-7 at Santa Anita and 3-for-3 at the distance. He beat tough guy DR. SCHIVEL while moving into open company in his last start and might just do it again. ELITE POWER has Hall of Fame Trainer Bill Mott in his corner, but he doesn’t look quite as good as he did last year when he won this. If he gets a pace battle up front, he could still win, but the price will be short, and you know we want a price! Go get ’em!
Good Luck!
