Dodgers vs. Braves Set-Up

Los Angeles grabbed the opener of this series Friday night 8-3, cashing in as a +100 underdog on the MLB betting line. The Dodgers trailed Atlanta 3-2 through six innings Friday but scored four runs in the seventh and two more in the eighth for the come-from-behind victory.

With Friday’s win, LA is 13-3 over its last 16 games. At 82-42 overall the Dodgers lead the NL West by 19.5 games over San Francisco, and they’re now ten games up on the Braves in the battle for the best record in the National League.

With Friday’s loss, Atlanta is 6-4 over its last ten games. At 72-52 overall the Braves’ lead in the NL East is down to 4.5 games over second-place Washington.

Los Angeles now leads the season series with Atlanta four games to none.

Saturday’s Starting Arms

Foltynewicz, by our strict standards, is just 3/13 on quality starts this season, 0/2 since returning from a stint in the Minors. Last Sunday he gave up four runs and eight hits through six innings of a 5-4 Braves win over the Marlins. And just before that he gave up three runs and five hits through 5 1/3 innings against Minnesota.

On the season the Braves are 6-7 with Foltynewicz, and while they’re 5-0 over his last five starts, he can’t take much credit for that.

Over his last four starts against the Dodgers, three last year and one earlier this season, Foltynewicz allowed 14 runs and 16 hits, including six home runs, through 17 innings. Atlanta lost all four of those games.

Lefty Ryu is a fantastic 19/22 on quality starts this year, working on a run of six in a row. Last Sunday he held Arizona scoreless on five hits through seven innings of a 9-3 Los Angeles victory. And over his last six starts, he’s allowed just four runs – two earned – and 30 hits through 39 2/3 innings.

The Dodgers are 17-5 with Ryu this year, 6-0 over his last six starts, and he can take full credit for that.

Over his last two starts against the Braves, one last year and one this year, Ryu allowed zero runs and eight hits through 16 innings. LA won both those games.

Saturday’s Batting Splits

Los Angeles is batting .264/.346/.488 against right-handed pitching this season. This lineup has also scored 48 runs over its last five games.

Atlanta is batting .265/.331/.464 against left-handed pitching this season.

The Bullpens

The Dodgers bullpen owns a 4.07 ERA this season and a 1.22 WHIP while allowing a .703 OPS. Numbers like those help this unit rank among the top half-dozen bullpens in Baseball.

After blowing Friday’s game, the Braves pen now owns a 4.47 ERA and a 1.48 WHIP while allowing a .778 OPS.

Totals Report

  • Overs are 60-59 in Dodgers games this season.
  • Overs are 63-54 in Braves games this season.
  • Overs are 31-26 in games played at SunTrust Park this season.
  • Overs are 3-0 in Dodgers-Braves games this season.
  • Unders are 12-10 with Ryu this season.
  • Overs are 9-3 with Foltynewicz this season.

Free MLB Pick

Ryu gets the easy check-mark in the pitching match-up, and LA also owns the better bullpen. Plus, the Dodgers are scoring a bunch of runs as of late. So we like Los Angeles here, and in knowing the visitors will bat nine times, we’ll play LA against the MLB run line.
