Boston’s bats propelled it to victory in Game 1 of this World Series Tuesday night. Can the Sox take a 2-0 lead Wednesday night? Can Los Angeles salvage the split? And how are we playing Game 2 with our daily free MLB picks?

World Series Game 2 MLB Betting Odds

Game 2 betting odds opened the Red Sox at around -135, with an over/under of 8.5 runs. The early betting action then bumped that line a nickel or so, to around -140.

Boston could also be found getting around +140 giving the run and a half on the run line.

Game 2 Set-Up

The Red Sox grabbed the opener of this World Series Tuesday night 8-4, cashing in as -175 post-time favorites on the World Series betting line. Boston pushed across a couple of runs in the bottom of the first inning against Dodgers starter Clay Kershaw and knocked him out of the game in the fifth. The Sox later secured all the insurance they would need when Eduardo Nunez banged a pinch-hit, three-run homer in the bottom of the seventh, and hung on from there.

So Boston is now 8-2 in these playoffs, while LA is 8-5 this post-season.

Game 2 Starting Arms

Lefty Price (16-7, 3.58), by our strict standards, finished 17/30 on quality starts during the regular season and is 1/3 in these playoffs. Last Thursday in the ALCS against Houston Price tossed six innings of three-hit, shutout ball, with nine strikeouts against zero walks, in a 4-1 Boston victory. However, over one start previous in that ALCS and one start against the Yankees in the ALDS Price gave up seven runs and eight hits, including three dingers, through just 6 1/3 innings.

On the season Boston is 24-9 with Price, 2-1 in these playoffs.

Price last started against the Dodgers two seasons ago, when he gave up six runs – three earned – on six hits and five walks through five innings of an 8-5 Red Sox defeat. But that more than two years ago, so while there’s still a couple of guys left from that LA lineup we’re not putting much weight into that result.

Fellow southpaw Ryu (7-3, 1.97) finished 9/15 on quality starts this season, and is also 1/3 in these playoffs. Last Friday he got nicked for five runs and seven hits through just three innings of a 7-2 NLCS loss to Milwaukee. But in one start earlier in that series and a start against Atlanta in the NLDS Ryu allowed just two runs and 10 hits through 11 1/3 innings.

On the season the Dodgers are 12-6 with Ryu, 2-1 in these playoffs.

This will be Ryu’s first start against the Red Sox since 2013, and that’s like 100 years ago.

Add it all up, and we’re calling this pitching match-up a wash.

Game 2 Batting Splits

Los Angeles posted a .240/.324/.409 team batting average/OBP/slugging percentage split against left-handed pitching this season. The Dodgers also scored three runs on five hits through four innings against Boston lefty Chris Sale Tuesday night.

The Sox posted a .250/.325/.395 split against lefties this year. This lineup also scored five runs on seven hits through four innings against LA lefty Kershaw Tuesday night.

We’re calling the splits with the sticks a push for Game 2, too.

The Bullpens

The Dodgers bullpen put up a 3.72 ERA and a 1.21 WHIP this season. This unit also allowed three runs on four hits and two walks through four innings in Game 1.

The Boston pen put up a 3.72 ERA and a 1.29 WHIP this season. This unit also held Los Angeles to one run and three hits through five innings of work Tuesday night.

We’re calling this comparison of the bullpens a wash, also.

Totals Report

Overs are 40-38 in games played at Fenway Park this year, which are averaging 9.8 total runs per.

Unders are a combined 27-22 with Price and Ryu this season.
