In this market, the Pistons opened as a 4.5-point favorite. Since then, the market has remained stationery to reflect divided action on both parties. In the Over/Under market, the line has moved upward by half of a point to reflect action on the Over. On the Money Line, Detroit comes in as a -185 home favorite as opposed to the Lakers who come in at +160 road dog.
The Detroit Pistons will take on Western Conference opponent the Los Angeles Lakers at the Little Caesars Arena in Detroit, Michigan. Tip-off is scheduled for 7:05 PM and is due to be televised on both TSN and FSN live from the Motor City. In the series between the two combatants, the Lakers own the most recent win as they defeated Detroit in the City of Angels in October by a score of 113-93. The win was a dominant performance for the Lakers on both sides of the court. Detroit had won three consecutive games against the Lakers in the contests between the two sides previously. Over the Pistons win streak, Detroit went 3-0 against the spread. However, in the most recent win Los Angeles had won outright as a three-point underdog.
From the get-go, we have noticed a few noteworthy betting trends. First off, Detroit is 22-14 SU in the Motor City. Secondly, the Lakers are 14-24 SU away from LA this year. Detroit overall plays exceptionally well at home. This is a basketball team that was simply dominant on its own court to kick off the 2017-18 season. Since then, Detroit has suffered some injuries and as a result attrition on their own court. However, there was a lot of hype surrounding this unit all over the span of the regular season. To get to .500 at the minimum would be a reasonable goal for the Pistons and thus they will be highly motivated heading into this affair.
Los Angeles is a basketball team that plays with reckless abandon. Very similar to the Philadelphia 76ers we have seen in years past, the Lakers have a penchant for playing up to the best teams in the NBA. With this being said, Detroit is not on that list but the Lakers hold the intangible of mental edge against the Pistons. Very simply, the Lakers know how to beat the Motor City Madmen and this can be a great asset to their strategy in this contest.
From a public money look, Detroit is receiving 52% of the cash action whilst the Lakers are getting 58% of the tickets from the general public. We have learned in forums that Detroit is a 100% consensus choice. In the Over/Under, 78% of the cash action is on the Under whilst 71% of the ticket action is on the Over.
If there is one thing that can be ascertained from the Los Angeles Lakers it is that they are not timid when they are taking on some tough teams in hostile environments. The Lakers do not conform to a common fallacy that West Coast teams do not play well in the East. Fifteen days ago, the Lakers defeated the Cleveland Cavaliers at home outright as a two-point choice. Detroit is a squad that is far more beatable on paper when contrasted to their Central Division rivals. Dont be surprised if Los Angeles pulls an upset here yet again against a Detroit team that has not lived up to the expectations despite some big name acquisitions this season.
