The Dallas Cowboys’ hopes to take down the NFC East were kept alive last week thanks to a 27-13 victory over the Titans combined with a somewhat surprising loss from the Philadelphia Eagles courtesy of the New Orleans Saints. Going into the final week of the season, the Cowboys need another win and a Philadelphia loss in order to steal the NFC East and also capture a potential first-round bye. Needless to say, Dallas needs to take care of business on Sunday when they end the regular season with a road trip against the Washington Commanders at FedEx Field.

The Commanders dropped their 3rd straight game last week in an ugly 24-10 loss to the Cleveland Browns. The recent losing streak has come at the most inopportune time for Head Coach Ron Rivera, as the Commanders were officially eliminated from playoff contention with last week’s defeat. Before last week’s loss, Rivera made the decision to start QB Carson Wentz following some garbage time success in the loss to San Francisco the week prior. A week later, in the most critical game of the season, Wentz threw three interceptions without a single touchdown pass in one of the Commanders’ worst performances of the season.

Going into Sunday’s rivalry showdown against the Cowboys, Rivera has already reverted back to QB Taylor Heinicke, but some could argue that the damage has already been done. Either way, Washington will enter Sunday’s week 18 contest as relatively large 7.5 point underdogs. In fact, it will be the largest home spread the Commanders have faced since hosting Tampa Bay in week ten last season. Needless to say, Rivera has lost some confidence from the public and perhaps even the team ahead of Sunday’s regular-season finale.

Betting on motivation in week 18 – Dallas Cowboys

I have rarely used the word “motivation” as a reason for backing a particular team. However, week 18 is upon us, and this is one of those rare times where “motivation” is an important factor. We have already witnessed teams like the Rams, and the Texans shut down for the final weeks of the season. Going into this Sunday’s contest, I have a hard time finding any reason for the Commanders to be enthusiastic for this game. The offense has been terrible for weeks, even with Heinicke, and let’s not forget Dallas stomped Washington 25-10 in week four without QB Dak Prescott. As a result, I think the psychology of this team, on the heels of a playoff-eliminating loss, has to be taken into consideration this week. Whereas Dallas has everything to play for and has an offense with the firepower that is easily capable of eliminating the fear of a 7.5 point betting spread.

Dallas Cowboys vs. Washington Commanders Betting Prediction

The Cowboys have been really inconsistent from week to week. QB Dak Prescott has thrown multiple interceptions in 3 of the last four games. As an outright team, Dallas is not playing their best football. However, I don’t think that matters this week. I think the circumstances and match-ups favor Dallas, and I also believe this game will not even be close. Take the Cowboys with confidence!
