It seems crazy that the NFL regular season is coming to a close here soon. We are in week 12 and the playoff chases are getting even more heated week by week. Before this season started if I told you that the Indianapolis Colts, led by a rookie QB, and the Detroit Lions, a playoff team a year ago were facing off and that the teams had records of 4-7 and 7-4, you would think that the Lions were the 7-4 squad. Nope!!! Andrew Luck has done wonders and the Colts have rallied together in honor of their head coach to make this season a success. The Lions are the exact opposite. A team that many considered a contender is struggling to put points on the board, and their defense isn’t much better. This is a big matchup for both teams. The Lions need to string some wins together to keep their slim playoff hopes alive, while the Colts want to keep the pressure on the rest of the AFC and stay ahead of the pack in the wildcard race. Winning the division will be tough for Indy due to the fact that Houston is leading their division at 10-1, but all the Colts want to do is make the post season. Once in the playoffs, anything can happen! Just ask the New York Giants

The Detroit Lions. Wow, what a mess. Many thought the team had finally hit their stride and would come into this season as a high powered offense with a shot to win the NFC North. Saying this season is a disappointment would be an understatement. The Lions sit at 4-7 and not only that, they have lost 3 straight contest and the Colts have won 5 of their last 6 games. From the looks of how this season has gone, you would think the Colts would easily take care of the Lions, but I actually still have a little faith in Detroit here. The Lions, led by QB Matthew Stafford are still the number one passing team in the league, while Indy only ranks 19th in the league in passing defense. I see no reason to think that Detroit cannot exploit this and put points on the board. This past week they took the 10-1 Texans to overtime, and I believe Detroit needed the confidence boost and it will carry over into this week. Will Detroit be able to have enough skill to take down Indy’s “LUCK?”

The Indianapolis Colts are the surprise team of 2012 so far. They come into this game at 7-4 and are leading the AFC Wildcard race with only 5 weeks to play. Andrew Luck has come in and put this team on his back. Of course many experts knew that someday he would be able to do this, but very few had faith he would do it this quick. Luck has already thrown for over 3000 yards and 13 TDs through his first 11 NFL games of his careerimpressive. Other than the play of Andrew Luck and being the 7th best passing team in all the NFL, the Colts are pretty average. They rank 19th against the pass, 20th against the run, and 17th in the league in rushing yards. Nothing too spectacular, but it doesn’t matter when your team is finding ways to win. A new QB, a coach who is battling cancer, and a tight group of teammates is what has carried this team all season. I like the Colts, a lot. I don’t consider them a title contender just yet, but if they keep getting better and better, this team will recover from the loss of Peyton Manning quicker than anyone could imagine. Great job Colts, kudos!

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: Detroit comes into this game as a 5 point favorite. You all know my style, take the underdogs, especially in the NFL. Well, not this week. Many people expected a 2-3 point line on this game, and some even thought the Colts may be favored. A 5 point spread would make most people lean to the Colts due to their recent success. I ain’t buying it. The Detroit defensive line could cause problems for Andrew Luck. We have to remember, as great as this kid has played, he is still a rookie. I say we will see a 31-21 type game. I like the Lions to get through this one. I’m betting Detroit at -5.
