After losing their 3rd straight game by 5 points or less last week to the Chargers 27-22, the New York Giants find their selves in unfamiliar territory at 0-5 for just the 4th time in franchise history. If the 0-5 start was not bad enough, problems mounted last week when the offense lost Odell Beckham, Brandon Marshall, and Dwayne Harris for the season with injuries. Now the depleted Giants will have the fortune of picking up the pieces of their offense and traveling to Denver this week for a Sunday night showdown with the Broncos at Sports Authority Field at Mile High.

The fact the Giants lost nearly their entire receiving corps is about as bad as it gets. However, 9 additional players were held out of practice on Wednesday due to injuries and it is believe that at least half of them will be out for this Sundays contest. So to say the Giants will be shorthanded, will be quite the understatement and unfortunately they draw one of the best defenses in the league in one of the toughest stadiums as their week 6 calling card. In fact, Denver is ranked #1 in total defense allowing just 260 yards per game and ranks 7th in scoring yielding just 18.5 points per game. If you combine the Giants offensive concerns along with the Broncos stout defense, then it makes perfect sense why Denver is favored 11.5 points with a total that is just 39 for Sunday Night Football.

If Giants fans are looking for good news they still have two-time Super Bowl MVP quarterback Eli Manning behind center. If you still believe in the 36 year old quarterback, he is going to have to be magical going forward to bring the Giants out of this 0-5 hole. On the season, Mannings stats have been pretty pedestrian with 8 touchdown passes with 5 picks and a quarterback rating of just 89.1. The problem the Giants inevitably face now is finding targets for Manning in the passing game. Tight end Evan Engram is the only target still healthy out of the top 4 receivers. 2nd year receiver Roger Lewis will basically be promoted to the #1 spot and Tavarres King will get a 2nd chance at the receiver position after being cut nearly a month ago.

The question now is can the Giants make this situation work and if so how long will it take? Obviously the odds are not advantageous with this weekends trip to Denver. The Broncos are very tough defensively especially at Mile High. The difficulty for those young receivers will be creating space quickly to keep Denvers pass rush at bay. If these young receivers fail to get open, the Broncos defense will make Mannings night miserable and easily be the best defensive play of the week in fantasy situations.

The best way the Giants can give their selves a chance is to get a tremendous effort from the defense. The Broncos offense does not present any overwhelming matchup advantages. Trevor Siemian is completing 62% passing with just 7 scores and 4 picks. CJ Anderson has been decent
averaging 4.5 yards per carry with 330 yards and 1 touchdown in 3 games. However, nobody from the offense has been great. Despite the 3-1 record SU, the Broncos have averaged just 23 points per game and most of that was accredited to the week 2 blowout against Dallas. In the recent two weeks, the Broncos have scored 16 points in each game resulting in a loss and a victory. Therefore for the Giants to keep this things competitive, they have to win the matchups on the defensive side of the football.

Jay’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: I just dont know how anyone can bet against Denver in this spot. I know it is the chalk play but it is also Sunday Night at Mile High. Barring a 16-7 type of game, I believe Denver covers the mark. Take the Broncos -11.5 and consider a small play on the under as well.
