This Sunday we have an intriguing NFC/AFC matchup, when the Oakland
Raiders
travel across the nation to take on the New York
Giants
. Both teams come in representing the last place spot in
their respective divisions. The Giants at 2-6 are last in the NFC East,
while the Raiders who come in at 3-5 are 4th place in the AFC West. Both
teams have proud traditions and fan bases, but this season has not been
kind to either of them. The Giants open up as a seven point favorite at
home, and the over/under is set at 43.5 points. The Giants no Raiders have
shown any sign of consistency, and that is exactly why this game could go
either way. Will the two time Super Bowl champ, Eli Manning, lead the way
for a New York win, or will Terrell Pryor travel to NY and get the big road
win?

When he was drafted, many thought Terrelle Pryor would never pan out as an NFL quarterback. Not that he has lit up the defenses he has faced, but Pryor has shown signs of improvement each week, and based on the league, there are many worse quarterback options out there. The weakness for the Raiders is the passing game. Not only on the offensive side, but also the defensive side of the ball. Oakland ranks 30th in the NFL in passing throwing for just under 200 yards per game. On the defensive side, the Raiders are giving up over 260 yards per game in the air. With that said, the running game is one of the Raiders few bright spots. Again, just like the passing game, the Raiders find the same fate on both the offensive and defensive side of the ball. On offense, Oakland runs the ball for close to 150 yards a game, while on defense, the Raiders are holding their opponents to less than 100 yards a contest. This Raiders run D is legit and that is why they may have a shot to keep this game competitive. If they can force Manning to throw the ball, and cause mistakes, which Eli has been prone to this season, the Raiders can not only keep this game close, they can win.

Betting Tip: If you’re a parlay player, you need to dump your bookie TODAY and make the switch to Sportbet. They have a great “Super Saver Bonus” offer when you sign up that gives you increased parlay odds (the best in the world actually) where the payouts are ridiculously more than the norm, especially on pars that are 6 teams or more.

Many people like to talk about the surprise teams of the NFL. When talking about those teams, this season many people like to talk about the Chiefs, the Colts, and for the first few weeks of the season, the Miami Dolphins. My surprise team this season is the New York Giants. Who on earth would have thought the G-Men would come out the gates at 0-6? The Giants weren’t just losing games, they were getting destroyed. They lost to Carolina 38-0, then came back the very next week and were dominated by the Chiefs by a score of 31-7. If you look statistically at the Giants, they don’t appear to be a bad team. They rank 9th in rushing defense, 16th in pass defense, and 13th in passing. What exactly has been the problem this season? Well, that’s easy…turnovers. Eli Manning has thrown 10 TDs and 15 INTs through 9 games this season. The turnover bug has killed this team. That is the key to winning this game and covering the spread. Do not turn the ball over. The Giants need to make Terrell Pryor earn every yard. Do not allow costly turnovers to make his job easier. I can see New York winning this game with, especially since its at home, but they must bring their A game in order to do so.

Bob’s Pick to Cover the Point Spread: In the eyes of a true NFL fan, this game is meaningless. Neither team is going to the post season, this isn’t a rivalry game, and it really means nothing. Well, means nothing to a fan. The players are professionals and want wins at any cost. On the surface, I like New York in this game, but if you take a step back and look at the body of work this season, there is no way I could ever lay 7 points with this Giants team. NO WAY. I am taking the Raiders plus the points. I am not going to share stats, numbers, etc. This is a no brainer. The New York Giants have no business being a TD favorite over anyone. PICK: RAIDERS +7
