This Saturday there is an NFC West showdown with two teams who truly have nothing to play for. The 1-13 San Francisco 49ers will travel to Los Angeles to take on the 4-10 LA Rams. Both teams come in having hit a very low point in 2016. The 49ers started the season 1-0 after beating these same Rams 28-0 in week one. After that, the Rams went on to win three straight and started looking like they had a legit shot to potentially make a playoff run. Since that three game winning streak, the Rams have lost nine of their last ten games and are now in search for a full time head coach after firing Jeff Fisher the day after they were destroyed by the Atlanta Falcons. San Francisco has yet to fire Chip Kelly who is in his first season as a head coach, but the rumor mill tells me he may be looking to get back into the college ranks pretty soon when his NFL career is over in a few weeks.

The line on this game has the Rams as a three point favorite at home over the Niners and for good reason. The Rams have at least been SOMEWHAT competitive and actually show they are playing hard. San Fran on the other hand has appeared to take a knee just like Kaepernick does before each game, and call it quits. Not only are the 49ers 1-13 overall, they are 3-11 against the spread…it is almost like they are hoping to beat out Cleveland for the top pick in April’s draft. The total points are set at 40 total between these two.

The Rams are breaking in their rookie and number one overall pick in this past year’s draft, Jared Goff. Goff has looked bad, but so has the entire Rams team in 2016. Los Angeles ranks near the bottom at most statistical categories and until they at least tighten up in SOME aspect, they will not find much success down the road. The Rams are dead last in the NFL in scoring at 14 points per game, they are 20th in points allowed at 23.4 per game given up. Also on offense, the Rams have the 29th ranked passing offense and the 31st “best” run game, and that is with one of the leagues stars, Todd Gurley, at running back. Even with all the stats looking bad, there is still no reason to think that these Rams cannot get this win and cover at home.

Yes, on paper the Rams are bad but the sad part is, the 49ers are just as bad, if not worse. San Francisco does have a decent run game behind Carlos Hyde and dual threat QB, Colin Kaepernick. The Niners average 134.8 yards per game on the ground which is 4th best in the entire NFL but then we have to look at the rest of the team. San Fran has virtually zero passing game ranked dead last in the NFL averaging 176.2 yards per game and to go along with that, they have the 32nd ranked scoring defense allowing over 30 points per game and the 25th worst scoring offense. If San Francisco has any desire to get their second win of the season, they need to step up in every way. This team last week went into the Georgia Dome in Atlanta and showed absolutely no heart and no passion. Once they got down it was game over and they got trucked 41-13.

These types of games are always hard to gauge but I seriously and honestly believe that the 49ers have reeled it in and called it quits. The Rams however have verbally expressed frustrations with this season and know that they were capable of so much more. Also, with a new interim coach, they seem to at least be trying un like San Francisco. I just do not think the 49ers will compete, I truly don’t. Yes this is a complete chalk bet with over 65% of the betting action on the home favorite but this is one of those games that is just too easy. The Rams will win this game 20-10.
