NFL Betting Odds

Week 9 NFL betting odds opened Houston at around -5 for this game, with an over/under of 51. Early betting action then bumped the Texans to -7 and dipped that total to 50.

Texans vs. Jaguars Betting Preview

Houston is a miserable 1-7 on the season, after losing at home to Green Bay two weeks ago 35-20. The Texans then had last week off.

Houston allowed the Packers to drive the opening possession of the game 75 yards to a touchdown, punted on its own first three possessions, and trailed 21-0 at the half. The Texans showed a glimmer of interest by driving the opening possession of the second half 75 yards to a score but immediately let Green Bay score again, and that was about it.

Houston also whiffed against the spread as a 2.5-point home dog.

For the day, Houston got out-gained by the Packers, but only by a margin of 379-365. But the Texans also shot themselves in the foot a couple of times with costly defensive penalties and missed a field goal when the game was still competitive, creating a -10 point swing.

Houston has now been out-gained and out-rushed six times in seven games this season.

Three weeks ago, the Texans botched a game at Tennessee, turning a late 36-29 lead into a 42-36 overtime loss. And they pissed away the cover, too, as four-point dogs.

At 1-7 overall, Houston is just looking to stem the negative tide that’s rolled over this team.

Jacksonville, meanwhile, following a promising start to this season, now owns a six-game losing skid after falling at the Chargers last week 39-29. The Jaguars fell down 16-0 early but pulled to within 16-14 at the half. Jacksonville then took the lead on a blocked punt return for a score early in the third quarter and later led 29-22. But the Jags gave up the last 17 points of the game to lose both SU and ATS as eight-point dogs.

On the day Jacksonville got out-gained by the Chargers 484-294, lost time of possession by a 35:25 split, and committed the only turnover of the game, which led directly to the touchdown that put the Jags down for good.

Jacksonville has now been out-gained each of its last four games, three times by at least 100 yards.

The Jaguars opened this season with a win over Indianapolis and a close loss to Tennessee. But since then, four of their five losses have come by double-digits.

Jacksonville has also now allowed at least 30 points each of its last six games.

At 1-6, overall, the Jags are just looking for some momentum for the future.
