Louisville is a 36.5-point home favorite Friday night in their first home game of 2026. The total sits at 56.5. My play is the Over.
Start with what Louisville just did. They went to Nashville on Sunday night and battled the No. 10 team in the country to the very last play in a 41-38 walk-off loss. Miller Moss threw for three touchdowns and moved the offense against a legitimate SEC defense. Louisville’s own defense couldn’t finish, but the offensive engine is real. That’s a team that will put up points against anyone.
Now they’re at home against an FCS opponent that just lost to William & Mary. The Villanova defense gave up 35 points to that same William & Mary team — an FCS opponent that wouldn’t compete with any ACC starter — and then needed a fourth-quarter rally to win 17-16 at Bucknell last week. That’s not a defense that’s going to hold up against a Miller Moss offense with playoff-caliber weapons around him.
Brohm’s team has a bigger reason to run up the score. Louisville’s playoff hopes are still alive but they need statement wins in Weeks 2 and 3. SMU is coming to town next Saturday in what could be the biggest game of Louisville’s ACC schedule. Playoff committees pay attention to margins, and a coach with playoff aspirations doesn’t call off the dogs against an FCS opponent that just got beaten by William & Mary.
Look at the Villanova offense too. Pat McQuaide, their 3,000-yard passer from 2025, is out of eligibility. Their two leading receivers from last year are gone. Their new starting quarterback situation is still tied up in what local reports describe as a court order over eligibility. That’s not the profile of an offense that plays keep-away and grinds the clock. That’s the profile of an offense that punts a lot, giving Louisville extra possessions.
More Louisville possessions against a defense that couldn’t stop William & Mary means more points on the scoreboard. If Louisville scores in the 40s (they just did against a top-10 team) and Villanova gets 10-14 in garbage time, we’re right around the 56.5 number before we even factor in the second and third teams playing late.
Louisville’s home crowd will be amped after the tough Sunday loss. Brohm is going to have the starters aggressive early because he wants a fast start. That means Miller Moss playing into the third quarter, tempo pushed, and the scoreboard piling up until the game gets out of hand. When Louisville hosted an FCS opponent (Eastern Kentucky) in 2025, they won 51-17 — 68 points in that one. Similar template.
The one concern: Louisville is on a short week and might come out sluggish emotionally after the walk-off loss. That could keep the score down early. But over four quarters, the talent gap wins.
