Cleveland is a slight moneyline favorite at around -114 in Game 4 of the ALDS, with Chicago near +102. The total is 7.5. My play is the White Sox moneyline.

The White Sox lead the series 2-1 and get a second chance to close it out at home. They won the first two games in Cleveland, 3-0 and 4-3, and held the Guardians to three runs across both. A win tonight sends Chicago to its first ALCS since 2005.

Cleveland’s bats finally broke through in Game 3. Jo Adell’s bases-loaded triple in the third turned a 1-0 deficit into a 4-1 lead, and José Ramírez added a two-run triple in the eighth in a 9-3 win. Ramírez had gone 0-for-6 in the first two games before going 2-for-4. It was a real performance, but one game doesn’t erase what Chicago’s pitching did in the first two.

Chicago goes back to the plan that worked in Game 1. Hagen Smith opens again after throwing 2.2 hitless innings with four strikeouts in the opener. He posted a 1.29 ERA over 28 regular-season innings with 41 strikeouts. Smith and Grant Taylor have combined for 17 strikeouts and one earned run over 14 innings in this series. The White Sox will use their bullpen aggressively, and those arms have mostly shut Cleveland down.

Parker Messick is the toughest test Chicago has faced. The rookie lefty went 12-9 with a 2.56 ERA over 32 starts, and he’s handled the White Sox well: a 2.81 ERA in four regular-season starts and two earned runs in 14.2 career innings at Rate Field. He allowed two runs over 4.1 innings in Game 1 and still took the loss because Cleveland didn’t score. Run support is the issue. Cleveland scored three runs in Games 1 and 2 combined, and the Guardians’ +11 run differential in the regular season trails Chicago’s +56.

Home field matters here too. The White Sox went 48-33 at Rate Field. A near-even price at home, with the better run differential and a bullpen that has dominated this series, makes Chicago the side. The risk is Smith’s control. He walked more than five batters per nine innings this season, and Cleveland’s lineup just showed what it can do with runners on base. But at plus money, I’ll back the White Sox to finish it.

The Pick: Chicago White Sox ML +102
